Summary

This position is located in the Consumer Product Safety Commission, Office of Import Surveillance. The Office is responsible for identifying and screening foreign made products being imported into the U. S. to insure they meet mandatory safety standards and regulations, educating industry regarding mandatory standards and certain safety-related voluntary standards, and following up with importers and distributors to determine whether a product recall is warranted.

Responsibilities

The incumbent serves as the Supervisory Compliance Investigator for CPSC's Office of Import Surveillance and is responsible for the following duties:
  • Assists the Director in the development of a comprehensive, nationwide ongoing import surveillance program.
  • Provides day-to-day managerial direction and exercises supervisory authority.
  • Supervises the collection and evaluation of data from various intelligence sources as part of a nationwide program.
  • Maintains on-going liaison with staff from U.S. Customs and Border Protection at ports across the United States.
  • Directs the initiation and maintenance of liaison with various Federal government agencies.
  • Works with other Office of Compliance (EXC) and Field Operations program managers to develop comprehensive short and long range work plans for the implementation of yearly compliance enforcement programs.

This position requires that the incumbent work remotely full-time from their residence. Duty location must have high-speed internet access capability. Remote work is a condition of employment. If selectee resides within the local commuting area to CPSC Headquarters, their duty station will be Bethesda, MD.

This is a Public Trust Position. Employment in this position requires a background investigation. Upon appointment, you will be required to complete a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450. You will provide this information annually.

Selectee must possess a valid state motor vehicle operator's license. Use of a privately owned motor vehicle may be required. Moderate physical exertion is required such as lifting and carrying (15-50 lbs) as well as intermittent strenuous activity such as climbing ladders, crawling, kneeling and bending.

Qualifications

Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.

Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Leading the activities of a project, team or organizational unit; 2) executing a local or national import surveillance or compliance enforcement program; and 3) serving as a liaison to other CPSC offices and/or federal agencies to accomplish a common goal.
