Responsibilities

You will provide support to the Program Manager in the administration and oversight of the CG-wide National Security Information Program. Specifically, you will be responsible for researching and developing recommendations for implementation of policies, procedures, and methods for identifying and protecting classified national security information and sensitive but unclassified information from unauthorized disclosure, misuse, theft or loss.

Being a CG civilian makes you a valuable member of the CG team. Typical work assignments include:
  • Reviewing and developing new and/or existing information security handling caveats designed to protect classified and sensitive but unclassified information and producing procedures and guidelines for agency-wide use.
  • Assisting in the development of agency-wide recommendations on the modifications and corrections needed to bring proposed or existing agency information security directives into compliance with legal or precedent guidelines.
  • Assisting in the development of new information security policies, procedures, and guidelines when the issues under consideration have no applicable precedent or are highly controversial and/or visible, political, or sensitive.
  • Developing new training material as directed by the Program Manager to ensure the workforce is well educated and prepared to perform assigned duties as they relate to the protection of classified and sensitive but unclassified information.
  • Maintaining and taking action to advance the Security Sensitive Information (SSI) program; identifying current and emergent needs across the enterprise and providing advice on new regulations/directives that directly or indirectly influence Coast Guard operations involving SSI.

Qualifications

Applicant must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level (in the federal sector). Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
  • Responding to problems or questions involving implementation of security guidelines.
  • Analyzing and resolving difficult and complex security problems associated with an Information Security Program.
  • Developing guidance for applying communications security policy, procedures, techniques, equipment, and methods to a variety of work situations and various degrees or levels of security controls.

National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

  • Knowledge of a wide range of information security and classification management principles, record management concepts.
  • Knowledge of sensitive but unclassified policies, practices, new theories and developments concerned with agency information security issues and methods to advance the Information Security program.
  • Ability to resolve Information Security issues/matters.
  • Knowledge of communication methods and techniques to develop briefings, training, presentations, and reports.
