Director of Compliance and Title IX and ADA Coordinator

The Director of Compliance reports to the Chief Diversity Officer and serves as the Title IX coordinator and the ADA coordinator providing campus-wide leadership and subject matter expertise on civil rights and Title IX. The director is responsible for overseeing compliance with laws, regulations, policies, and guidance in the areas such as accessibility, discrimination, and sexual and gender-based harassment. This involves creating, revising, and implementing University policies across these areas as well as providing for campuswide education and training for these policies. The director also serves as the point of contact for federal and state agencies in the areas of civil rights and Title IX and is responsible for responding to external complaints and investigations.

General Description of Position

Direct the Office of Compliance supporting the University’s efforts to create and maintain an accessible, equitable and inclusive campus by ensuring that the university is in compliance with applicable civil rights and Title IX laws, regulations, policies and guidance and has an effective and timely response to allegations or complaints.

Knowledge of and administrative experience with interpreting and applying civil rights and Title IX laws, regulations and guidance Investigatory skills (including ADA, Section 503/504, Fair Housing, VAWA, FERPA, Clery Act, etc.) Excellent written, oral, interpersonal, presentation and facilitation communication skills.

Capacity to organize the work of the office and manage staff and coordinate with affiliated compliance officers Experience in research, data analysis and assessment Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive and confidential/private information and communications.

Required Education

An advanced degree (Master’s degree at a minimum) in a field which addresses the administrative, educational, and/or legal responsibilities inherent in compliance with civil rights and Title IX laws and regulations.

Eight or more years of progressive education and work-related experience related to the duties and responsibilities of the position (including conducting investigations and compliance review).

Required Experience

Demonstrated ability to work with multiple constituencies to support an accessible, equitable and inclusive environment for all constituencies.

Preferred Education

Juris Doctorate Degree or a Ph.D. in an area appropriate for leadership in the area of civil rights and Title IX

Experience administering reasonable accommodations, policy development, procedures, and complaint resolution relating to persons with disabilities. Experience administering investigations of claims of discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct.

Preferred Experience

Experience working in higher education at a college or university

Experience providing supervision to assigned staff

Experience facilitating and leading trainings related to the duties and responsibilities of the position

Preferred Licensure

A record of trainings and certifications relevant to Title IX and ADA.
