Director, Human Resources

The George Mason University, College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) invites applicants for the position of Director, Human Resources. CHSS has 17 programs and departments with about 400 full-time faculty, 100 staff, 400 graduate assistants and 200 part-time faculty. Position Summary: Reporting to the Executive Director, Finance & HR, the Director, Human Resources will provide leadership, expertise and guidance to departments within the College on all human resources, employee relations, benefits and equity matters and is responsible for establishing and maintaining human resources planning and management systems and controls. The director will provide leadership in directing all College personnel matters.

Responsibilities: * Serve as HR liaison for the college with university administration on all personnel matters. Work with university offices such as Human Resources & Payroll, the Provost's Office and the Office of Compliance, Diversity and Ethics to assure university and commonwealth policy compliance; * Assist college leadership in the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to human resources; * Liaise with the Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs & Strategic Initiatives and the Associate Director, Operations & Initiatives on faculty promotion and tenure, credentialing, multi-year contracts and MOU's; * Manage all human resources processes including recruitment, hiring, performance evaluation, staffing needs assessment and the interpretation of state classification and compensation policies to ensure consistency and effective management; * Develop and maintain reporting on key metrics such as diversity, retention, compensation and faculty type; * Provide guidance to and represent the Dean's Office with departments and university administration on performance management and employee relations matters; * In collaboration with college leadership, assist with establishing and maintaining a culture of civility and inclusive excellence; * Provide training to college leadership and departmental HR staff on policies, procedures and initiatives.

Required Qualifications: * Knowledge of and experience in the leadership and management of human resources and employee relations; * Master's degree in a relevant field or a Bachelor's degree accompanied by extensive relevant experience; * Knowledge of principles and practices of human resources, employee relations and inclusive excellence hiring practices; * Experience planning, developing and managing human resources programs, policies, procedures and reporting; * Excellent written and oral communication; * Demonstrated ability to act with integrity and maintain confidentiality; * Ability to work independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications: * HR experience in a higher education setting; * Experience working directly with faculty.
