About Housing and Residence Life (HRL): Housing and Residence Life (HRL) is a self-supporting auxiliary organization within the University Life unit of George Mason University. HRL serves a highly diverse population of approximately 6,200 students, the majority of which are undergraduates living in over 40 traditional, suite, and apartment-style residence halls in three campuses within the vibrant Northern Virginia area. HRL employs over 170 full-time and graduate staff members and over 350 undergraduate student staff members. About the Student Support and Advocacy Center: The Student Support and Advocacy Center is committed to providing an empowering environment for all Mason students to seek support services and to explore healthy life choices. We offer educational programming, one-on-one consultations, and resources in the areas of sexual and interpersonal violence, financial well-being, substance use, and collegiate recovery. We also assist students encountering barriers to personal success.

About the Position: As a coordinated effort within the Division of University Life at George Mason University, the departments of Housing and Residence Life and the Student Support and Advocacy Center established a formal collaborative endeavor to address concerns regarding residential students in distress. As such, a number of shared services positions are in place to conduct outreach and intervention for residential students encountering personal challenges.

The Coordinator manages a caseload of residential students and works to develop individual action plans to assist in addressing concerns identified by the student, a university employee, or any other concerned individual. The coordinator reports directly to the Assistant Director of Care & Outreach.

The purpose of this collaboration is to provide students with guidance to support their personal success and overall well-being.

Responsibilities: * Manage referrals and student issues related to distress/crisis intervention, meet with students and consult with Assistant Director when appropriate; * Implement developmentally appropriate interventions, coordinate resources and services, and monitor follow-up and progress of student in distress cases; * Provide individualized support to students with concerns related to mental health, financial distress, food insecurity, and other challenges; * Collaborate with other units in assisting students of concern including but not limited to Counseling and Psychological Services; Student Health Services; Student Conduct; Disability Services; University Police; and appropriate academic administrators and faculty from around the University; * Ensure that student records are maintained in accordance with University policies and applicable laws; * Serve as a member of the University CARE Team; * Provide support and guidance to offices in matters pertaining to case management; consult with the Assistant Director of Care and Outreach, the Associate Director of the Student Support and Advocacy Center, the Associate Director of Residential Student Success, and Dean of Students staff when impact of a situation crosses functional boundaries; * Respond to referrals and other communication from residents and staff; * Collaborate with Residential Communities staff to coordinate outreach; * Assist in the development of student staff training as it relates to student support and crisis management; * As needed serve on departmental and divisional committees related to student care and outreach; * Any other tasks as directed by the Assistant Director of Care and Outreach.

Required Qualifications: * Master's degree, at time of hire, in Student Personnel Administration, Higher Education, Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience; * Ability to maintain confidential information; * Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; problem solving and analytical skills; * Ability to build and maintain successful collaborative relationships in a diverse campus community; * Ability to operate various software programs, including data management platforms and Microsoft Office products; * Drive and flexibility to work in a high-paced environment with frequent interruptions.

Preferred Qualifications: * Previous work experience in a university setting within student affairs or equivalent; * Previous experience with students in distress and crisis intervention/response.
