"Research GIS Software Engineer

The George Mason University, Center for Spatial Information Science and Systems (CSISS) invites applications for a Research GIS Software Engineer position. Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be part of a research and development project team to develop a semantic catalog system with geospatial contents. This position is full-time with benefits. The initial appointment will be for one year and is subject to annual renewal based on performance and the availability of funding. The duties include, but are not limited to: * Work directly under the Principle Investigator to participate in designing, developing, and implementing the semantic catalog system; * Assist the PI in design, execution, and modeling of geospatial features and their semantic catalog service system; * Collaborate with the project team and collaborators to develop, test, and release the sematic catalog system with agile software development lifecycle.

Required Qualifications: * Master degree or higher in computer science, geography, geographic information sciences or related subjects; * Hands-on experience with one programming language in software development; * Knowledge of semantic technology and geographic information sciences; * Experience in geospatial databases.

Preferred Qualifications: * Experience in multiple developing languages, including Java, C/C++, and Python programming languages; * Knowledge of open geospatial Web service specifications and standards; * Experience in knowledge base and semantic database; * Experience with Open-Source geospatial software packages; * Familiar with open specifications for geospatial metadata, data Web services and catalogue services of OGC and ISO TC 211; * Experiences with large system development in cloud computing and Web environment.
