The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, a global network of foreign policy research centers in Russia, China, Europe, the Middle East, India, and the United States, is seeking an experienced Senior Editor to join its communications team in Washington, DC.

The responsibilities of Carnegie's senior in-house editor include editing major policy publications on global issues ranging from short articles to flagship research reports, as well as playing a key role in advising researchers on content development and reviewing and providing feedback to researchers on early drafts. Our authors come from around the world, and their topics cover a full spectrum of political and economic issues and global foreign policy. Significant knowledge of and interest in a broad range of foreign policy topics is essential.

The successful candidate will be a highly accomplished editor with six-to-eight years of experience ranging from substantive, structural editing to proofreading. They should be able to ensure consistent house style while placing emphasis on clarity and readability. A strong editing track record, especially work on research-based publications, together with knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style is required. The ideal candidate will have the poise and authority to work with busy policy experts and the sensitivity to manage the individual writing styles and time constraints of our authors. The ideal candidate should be prepared to work closely with the entire communications team and be able to independently prioritize and work on multiple projects simultaneously. Excellent attention to detail and outstanding interpersonal skills are essential. Some experience with design and online user experience is desired.
