The Support Systems Engineer is responsible for the technical planning, system integration, verification and validation of system functions of various customer systems. The position will also be responsible for the identification and development of solutions based on customer needs. The position is based in Reston Virginia and will be a mix of in office and remote telework unless the employee is out with an authorized absence or business travel. The primary function of the Support Systems engineer is to directly support customers with integration and testing of Inmarsat solutions within the customers infrastructure. The Support Systems Engineer will work alongside a department of engineers with varying disciplines that create custom communications solutions and products for niche customer requirements integrating satellite communications backhaul capability with associated IP routing/switching equipment. The Systems Engineering department will ensure the logical and systematic conversion of customer and product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. The department performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications. A strong background with over 10 years of experience in satellite communications, IP Networking, and Systems Engineering is required. Preferred formal education in Electrical Engineering. Minimum DOD SECRET security clearance required; TS/SCI preferred. Travel can be expected up to 60% on average and include both foreign and domestic travel. A valid Passport and Driver's License is required. Must be willing to travel to austere environments with short notice. Responsibilities Perform assigned daily operations to include Systems integration and testing, project lead, technical escalation for trouble calls, and onsite customer support provide support on project planning and solution/systems implementation and integration, Participate in design and technical review meetings. Develop technical plans for testing and implementation of various IP and RF systems, provide detailed reports of testing and integration activities. Provide customer training on operations and maintenance of fielded solutions Work with engineers to implement and maintain systems referencing block diagrams, sequence diagrams, interface definitions, and other analysis and design artifacts Support on-site customer meeting to extract custom requirements used to design custom network solutions. Support on-site and remote customer support activities globally to include systems integrations, technical assistance, and future systems planning Provide network design, configuration, and implementation support for newly created solutions. Provide technical support to internal and external customers including problem troubleshooting and resolution of newly fielded solutions. Work in a SCIF environment as needed to support customer activities Skills and Knowledge Proficient knowledge of Cisco Routers and Switches to include configuration and troubleshooting. Proficient in RF principles to include; understanding/interpreting Eb/No, C/N, and BER values as well as various modulation/coding techniques and understand the benefits/down falls of each (BPSK, QPSK, 8PSK, SSMA, TPC, Reed Solomon, Viterbi, LDPC, VersaFec, etc). Understanding of satellite network access methods (SCPC, TDMA, CDMA) Supporting system and S/W architecture, development, requirements analysis, design, process execution and evaluation, selections and evaluation of COTS/GOTS tools and test integration. Knowledgeable in both serial based and Ethernet based SCPC modems Experience with MPLS in a service provided environment. Strong knowledge in LAN infrastructure - Subnetting. VLANs, routing protocols, etc. Experience configuring/Troubleshooting IP Networks. Expert knowledge and understanding of TCP/IP network technologies; DNS, DHCP, TFTP, NAT, and SSL. Experienced in supporting and implementing Aircraft BLOS communication architectures to include, Video distribution (multicast and unicast), C2 traffic, and other system payloads. Must have strong working knowledge of working with and safeguarding classified information Experience in building and troubleshooting cables and connectors to include multi pin cannon plug, D-sub, Ethernet, RF coax Experience working with customers as a technical subject matter expert for Inmarsat solutions and systems Experience Bachelor's Degree in System Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or related discipline from an accredited college or university is required. Ten (10) years of additional system engineering experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree High Level of Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite to include Visio and Project Cisco CCNA certifications preferred.
