Computer Systems Engineer

George Mason University, Information Technology Services (ITS) - located on the Fairfax, Va., campus-invites applications for a Computer Systems Engineer position within the Enterprise Infrastructure Services, Cloud, Compute & Storage Operations team. Responsibilities: * Serve as subject matter expert in compute, storage, system virtualization, and orchestration technologies; * Primary focus is maintaining the operational stability of the university's enterprise infrastructure systems and services; * Serve as a Linux Systems Engineer for our clients and will work on multiple efforts.

Required Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience; * Familiarity with installation, configuration, and administration of Linux network servers, both physical HW and Virtual Machines; * Familiarity design, develop, and maintain custom scripts and utilities to exercise Linux network servers to measure performance and test for defects in a variety of configurations; * Strong working knowledge of Linux and IP Networking, IP Networks and Protocols, hardware issue troubleshooting, and maintaining enterprise software tools; * Familiarity with manage and maintain multiple database and servers using Linux OS; * Familiarity with data networking technologies and concepts; * Familiarity with scripting or programming; * Ability to work independently and manage multiple concurrent tasks; * Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; * Must be eligible to work in secure computing environments that process and store restricted data, including information subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI).

Preferred Qualifications: * Advanced degree in a technical discipline; * Red Hat or other Linux System Administration certifications; * System/Network Administration or Design certifications; * Significant experience in a systems administration or engineering role in a multi-user environment.

Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
