General Requirements: Martek Global Services, Inc. is seeking a highly organized and self-motivated Accounting Assistant who will be reporting directly to the Accounting Manager and will assist in overseeing various efforts of the accounting and bookkeeping matters within the Accounting Department. The Accounting Assistant will assist in managing the day-to-day aspects of the company's general ledger accounting, cost accounting, project accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, as well as vendor and client contracts management. Work Location: 7920 Norfolk Avenue Bethesda, MD 20814 Duties & Responsibilities: In this position, the responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to: Assist in project accounting duties to include: Supplemental P&L monthly hours report for financials and monthly invoicing process. Provide bookkeeping support for Martek and other subsidiary entities. Provide Accounts Payable support to include vendor agreement management; vendor bills; 1099 tracking; cost tracking; period of performance (POP) tracking; and bill recording and payment process (control sheets). Process, track, and compute various forms of payouts made to employees such as: monthly commissions, spot bonuses, annual bonuses, signing bonuses, or gift card bonuses. Assist in managing the corporate credit card accounts. Assist in making estimated tax payments and sales tax filings. Provide support with the monthly GSA filing process. Prepare various report for monthly financials. Support the maintenance of the accounting systems of Martek, and their subsidiaries. Assist in the implementation and management of accounting policies and procedures. Provide support for the generation of the month-end & year-end close. Assist in production of the financial reports on a regular basis. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Windows with intermediate to advanced level functionality. Other duties as assigned. Experience & Education Requirements: The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business. A minimum of 2 years of experience in Accounting, ideally within a government contracting environment. Experience in QuickBooks will be a plus.
