Job Description

This position is responsible for facilitating the development and ongoing monitoring of the Music and Visual Arts K-12 curriculum, including budget development to ensure appropriate supporting resources and materials to implement that curriculum. This individual monitors the Fine Arts instructional program, K-12, including collection and analysis of student performance data. Additionally, this person works with teachers, administrators, and local and national arts organizations to ensure that all ACPS students experience an effective arts education.

This job reports to the Executive Director of Curriculum Design and Instructional Services.

Qualifications:
  • Education: Master's Degree required.
  • Certificates & Licenses: Valid Virginia Department of Education postgraduate professional teaching license with an endorsement in music and/or art preferred.
  • Experience: Five years of public school teaching experience.

Essential Functions:

Curriculum Design and Development:
  • Facilitates the development of a suggested scope and sequence and related lesson sequence for each grade level of the K-12 Visual Arts curriculum guides (comprehensive course sequence)
  • Coordinates the design and development of K-12 Visual Arts curriculum guides.
  • Coordinates the design and development of Visual Arts secondary elective course curriculum guides.
  • Facilitates the development of a suggested scope and sequence and related lesson sequence for each grade level of the K-12 Music curriculum guides (comprehensive course sequence)
  • Coordinates the design and development of K-12 Music curriculum guides (comprehensive course sequence).
  • Coordinates the design and development of Music secondary elective course curriculum guides

Instructional Services:
  • Provides ongoing modeling and demonstration lessons, coaching, and mentoring to all Fine Arts instructors, K-12, including supporting instructors new to the division to ensure their use of research-based best practices.
  • Develops and implements ongoing professional development in the Visual and Performing Arts to ensure fidelity of curriculum implementation and instructional alignment with Virginia Standards of Learning.
  • Supports the scheduling of the Fine Arts curriculum across schools, K-12.

Assessment and Progress Monitoring:
  • Analyzes data related to student performance in K-12 Visual and Performing Arts to ensure effective progress monitoring of student achievement in these content areas.

Budget and Resource Management:
  • Develops and coordinates the budget for all Visual and Performing Arts programs.
  • Ensures that all required resources (print, non-print, supplies, instruments, etc.) are available in every school to support effective implementation of the written curriculum in the Visual and Performing Arts.

Communication and Interpersonal Competencies:
  • Demonstrates high levels of written and spoken communication to a variety of audiences and stakeholder groups.
  • Serves as an advocate for all ACPS Fine Arts programs, K-12.
  • Assumes other responsibilities as may be assigned.

Clearances:
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
  • Tuberculosis Skin Test.
