The George Mason University, Facilities Department invites applications for the Project Manager II position. About the Position:

The Project Manager II is responsible for managing design, construction, and fit-out for capital and non-capital projects from project initiation through turn-over. The Project Manager II is also expected to lead project planning and programming for non-capital projects and be part of the team under the leadership of the Capital Strategies and Planning office for capital planning, project planning, and programming for capital projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as primary point of contact with academic and business unit representatives throughout the duration of the project;
  • Manage the work efforts of external organizations such as A/E firms, general contractors and construction managers and coordinates the work efforts of institutional organizations such as interior design, environmental graphic design, information technology, access control and environmental health safety and risk management to ensure that program objectives, institutional design and construction standards, regulatory requirements, the project schedule requirements, and the project budget are achieved;
  • Coordinate with and manage submissions to external agencies including the Division of Engineering and Buildings and the State Fire Marshall's Office to ensure regulatory compliance is achieved;
  • Directs activities of other facilities members of the project team (project engineer, project inspector, etc.) and contracted consultants.


Required Qualifications:


  • BS degree, Engineering or BArch degree, Architecture, or advanced degree required. Although an advanced degree is preferred, significant experience in progressively responsible engineering or architectural positions may be substituted for the advanced degree requirement;
  • Registered Architect or Licensed Professional Engineer (in any state) preferred. Ability to transfer an out of state registration as an Architect or Professional Engineer to the Commonwealth of Virginia and obtain certification as a Virginia Construction Contracting Officer within one year;
  • Multiple years of responsible experience with multi-million dollar facilities project management in design and/or construction, preferably with large scale projects for institutional clients such as institutions of higher education;
  • Experience as Project Manager directing Design and Construction Contracts with demonstrated independent decision making;
  • Experience with Design-Bid-Build required; experience with Design-Build and/or Construction Management At Risk delivery methods desired;
  • Experience in selecting, negotiating, and managing professional services contracts;
  • Must currently possess an appropriate, active, valid motor vehicle operator's license that meets all of GMU's requirements for operating state vehicles and equipment under Mason's Vehicle Use Policy 1411 https://universitypolicy.gmu.edu/policies/vehicle-use/ "> https://universitypolicy.gmu.edu/policies/vehicle-use/. The Office of Risk Management reserves the right to review the driver's licenses and Motor Vehicle Reports (MVRs) of all candidates selected with employment contingent upon a favorable review.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 7-12 years progressive experience in an engineering or architectural role.
