Exhibitions and Office Coordinator, Film and Video Studies

The Film and Video Studies Program within the College of Visual and Performing Arts at George Mason University seeks qualified candidates for the position of Exhibitions and Office Coordinator. About the Position: The Exhibitions and Office Coordinator oversees student productions schedules, manages student exhibitions, and supervises student workers. The Exhibitions and Office Coordinator manages the Visiting Filmmakers Series at Mason. The ideal candidate will have experience in film curation and/or film events management. The ideal candidate will have a background in anti-racism and inclusive excellence initiatives, including cultivating a diverse and inclusive learning environment, and mentoring and advising members of underrepresented and underserved populations.

Responsibilities: Manage Student Productions Calendar: * With the Program Director, faculty and staff, create and enact a procedure for coordinating student production plans according to faculty-driven guidelines; * Guide students in booking production spaces (on and off-campus) and securing equipment from GMU and area rental houses, in coordination with the Film at Mason Technical Manager; * Working with faculty and the Technical Manager, coordinate resource usage and advise students on resource availability.

Coordinate Student Productions Insurance: * Interface with University Risk Management on insurance procedures and manage insurance protocols and procedures for student and Film at Mason productions.

Coordinate Student Exhibitions: * Organize and coordinate exhibitions of student films and staged readings of screenplays, including casting and scheduling, event space logistics, budgeting, and coordination of technical support with faculty and staff for student film festivals, traveling Best of Film at Mason programs, etc.; * Manage promotion of student showcases.

Information, Resources, and Communication: * Maintain informational resources for students as they relate to productions, permissions, and exhibitions, in support of their film production work and distribution; * Maintain program websites; * Publish a monthly e-newsletter for students identifying regional and national resources and opportunities.

Visiting Filmmakers Series at Mason: * Organize and manage VFS events, including logistics of facilities, visiting artists, fundraising, media requests, communication, and technical support; * Coordinate artist contract payments, travel, and lodging; * Identify and solicit potential visiting artists, especially those working in anti-racist and inclusive representation and production.

Supervise Visiting Student Workers: * Recommend and budget the hire of student workers to support your work and advertise and hire for the position; * Manage and oversee the work of student staff, including training and mentorship of student workers.

Required Qualifications: * Experience in film curation and/or film events management; * Experience managing and initiating anti-racist and inclusive programs, strategies, and practices; mentoring and advising members of underrepresented communities, incorporating the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion into decision-making processes; * All typical skills necessary for operating in an office environment; * Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Excel and similar budgeting software, and proficiency with Microsoft Office and Mac OSX.

Preferred Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree in related field; * Organized, creative, flexible self-starter who can solve problems independently; * Experience working in the arts, academic institutions, or other non-profit environments; * Experience working with students, including working with confidential information (for instance, student files); * Experience in maintaining websites and social media channels.
