DIRECTOR, MARINE AND COASTAL CONSERVATIONSummaryThe Director, Marine and Coastal Conservation (Director) has principal responsibility to oversee the Foundation s national and international marine and coastal grant making portfolio including marine and coastal habitats, marine wildlife, and fisheries. This position supervises the staff on the Marine and Coastal team. The Director works with the Foundation s senior staff, external affairs team, science and other program staff, federal agencies and other conservation partners to develop and implement a grant making strategy that addresses the pressing conservation issues in the marine and coastal environment and that achieves measurable conservation outcomes. The Director will serve as spokesperson for the Foundation with regard to the Foundation s Marine and Coastal conservation strategy, the Marine and Coastal resilience strategy, the Foundation s conservation goals and accomplishments, and coordinate the Foundation s activities under the strategic plan, working collaboratively with others involved or affected by project and programmatic decisions.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESDesign and implement conservation goals, objectives and strategies for the Marine and Coastal Conservation programs that align with Foundation-wide conservation goals and those of our partners, in coordination with the Chief Conservation Officer, other program and science staff and the Board.In coordination and consultation with the Foundation s Development and Government Relations teams, achieve Marine and Coastal Conservation fundraising goals through identification and solicitation of funds from corporations, foundations, and other potential donors. Assist the Development team to identify potential donors for fundraising partnerships.Manage applicable funding source(s) as appropriate, including the preparation of grant applications and amendments, preparation and submission of financial and programmatic reports and coordination with project officers to ensure compliance with all funding source requirements.Supervise, manage and develop staff supporting the Marine and Coastal program portfolio. Work closely with the Science Team to ensure alignment with business plan outcomes and goals.Oversee the solicitation and administration of grants that implement the Marine and Coastal strategies.Develop, manage and/or oversee all aspects of programs associated with the Marine and Coastal portfolio and Marine and Coastal resilience strategies, and ensure effective collaboration with Regional Offices for which the marine and coastal programs are relevant or who manage complementary coastal or marine programs.Serve as spokesperson for the Foundation, as appropriate, with regard to Marine and Coastal programs, Marine and Coastal resilience programs, programmatic conservation objectives and accomplishments.In coordination with the Science Team, develop business plans to inform programmatic investments.Develop and manage the Marine and Coastal team budget in coordination with the Chief Conservation Officer and other Foundation staff.Prepare briefing materials and recommendations to support decision making by the Foundation s Board.Oversee the preparation of various descriptive and evaluative reports related to the portfolio of Marine and Coastal programs.Be available and willing to travel on short notice.Subject to programmatic objectives and budgetary considerations, propose and conduct site visits in accordance with Foundation policy. SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESRecommend improvements to existing processes.Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Conservation Officer. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS)At least ten (10) years relevant experience and advanced degree or equivalent experience in Marine or Coastal ecology. Experience related to coastal resilience programs and activities preferred.At least five (5) years experience in program management, including overseeing staff, preparing and managing budgets, program development and fundraising and grants management.Experience working with federal and state resource agencies, experience managing cooperative agreements preferred.Knowledge of marine and coastal natural resource conservation issues and policies on a state, regional and national level.Demonstrated success in fundraising or program development.Demonstrated ability to lead and manage staff.Demonstrated ability to build constructive and effective conservation partnerships.Grant management and administration experience preferred.Ability to respond quickly and accurately to requests for information.Ability to organize and prioritize work and meet deadlines.Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including presentation skills.Strong attention to detail and follow-through.Flexibility in a rapidly changing environment.Strong analytical skills.Proficiency with MS Office products (eg, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
