The Commercial Lender will work closely with Business Banking team and the various retail channels to drive production. The focus will be originating new loans in the Washington DC Metropolitan area. A book of business is preferred, but not required. The Lender will focus on OOCRE, C&I and SBA Lending. The incumbent will be responsible for the generation, pre-screening and management for new commercial loans. This includes objectives related to loan production, portfolio growth, fee income, profitability, credit quality, loan delinquencies, member service, and personnel development.


  • Ensure compliance, operational risk controls in accordance with NWFCU and NCUA regulatory standards and policies
  • The ability to comply with all internal organizational policies and procedures
  • Effectively demonstrate the ability to make timely, prudent and in-depth credit evaluations that meet the minimum credit requirements as established in the loan policy manual
  • Oversee all aspects of the credit process; loan origination, pipeline management, prescreening, cash flow and collateral analysis, credit review, due diligence and loan closing
  • Structures, processes and reviews all loan renewals, extensions, risk rating recommendations, modifications and TDR\u2019s
  • Development and implementation of an effective sales calling program targeting industries that fall within the CU risk profile
  • Meet with existing and perspective members to continuously promote the Northwest brand while identifying cross-selling opportunities and potential referrals to other department
  • Target focus for origination is ideally split between OOCRE, C&I Lending and SBA
  • Work with the Commercial Lending Manager and VP of Commercial to discuss pricing recommendations
  • Meet with the loan committee bi-monthly to discuss deals pending approval, modification or annual renewal
  • Review all Credit Memorandum\u2019s to include credit analysis and deal recommendation
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Adhere to Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) regulations and all related Credit Union policies and procedures


  • Bachelor\u2019s Degree
  • Minimum 7 years\u2019 experience in Commercial or Business Banking
  • Formal credit training required, i.e. Omega Certification, RMA or equivalent
  • Ability to maintain effective relationships with internal partners, members, service providers and external Center of Influences (COI\u2019s)
  • Strong understanding of SBA guidelines, policies, procedures and eligibility criteria
  • The ability to generate loans, deposits and fee income with existing and prospective members
  • Knowledge of credit underwriting, cash & accrual accounting procedures, cash flow analytics and loan documentation required
  • Must possess strong conflict resolution skills and the ability to mediate customer service problems, or credit disputes when they arise
