Position Information
Arlington County Department of Community Planning, Housing and Development (CPHD) is seeking an Information Technology Specialist to join our internally-focused Business Operations Division. The Business Operations Division works directly with five CPHD divisions to provide resources and support in the areas of human resources, information technology and budgeting. The Information Technology Specialist will provide technical support to the Department and assist with identifying and implementing software and applications that will improve CPHD's processes and workflows. Additionally, this position will assist the Lead Technology Coordinator with project management, asset tracking, and procurement coordination.

Specific duties include:

  • Providing User support on applications and hardware and working with the County's Department of Technology Services (DTS) to resolve Tier-1/2 issues;
  • Installing and configuring PC-based business application software;
  • On and off boarding of employees to ensure new employees have the tools they need and for departing employees, ensuring the return of all assigned assets;
  • Procuring hardware/software, including mobile devices;
  • Coordinating the Department's rollout of DTS led software/hardware upgrades and new technology deployments;
  • Providing training on logistical support and select hardware and software applications; and
  • Tracking technology expenses and report on overall technology trends;
The successful candidate will possess the following :

  • Considerable knowledge of current technology and common office software;
  • Commitment to customer-service;
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships among staff at all levels, as well as from different business units and departments; and
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Selection Criteria

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field;
  • Plus some experience in application training or user support; and
  • Some experience operating or working with business applications.

Substitution: Additional relevant experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year for year basis.

Desirables: Preference will be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following:
  • Microsoft Office 365;
  • Windows 10 platforms;
  • A performance-based training/certification for PC troubleshooting and repair;
  • Xerox Printers; and/or
  • Assisting in project management.
