Summary

This position is in the Division of Enforcement, Associate Group 2, in the Office of Investigative & Market Analytics (IMA), located in Washington, DC.

The Division of Enforcement investigates possible violations of securities laws, recommends Commission action when appropriate, either in a federal court or before an administrative law judge, and negotiates settlements.

Responsibilities

As an Investigative Data Analytics Specialist in the Enforcement Division, you will:
  • Serve as a leading authority for sourcing, collecting, and structuring data and developing analytical work products in enforcement investigations and litigation.
  • Perform a consultative role by working with investigative teams to help them determine their data and analysis needs, suggest solutions, explain results from analysis, and revise data sources and/or analysis as needed.
  • Integrate multiple data sources into user-friendly, custom-built, analytical work products, including visualizations, for investigations and litigation.
  • Utilize text mining, web-scraping, and other functions to collect and cross-reference different data sources, including trading data, transactional banking data, corporate sales data, general ledger data, public company filings, and other public and private data sources.
  • Apply expertise with a back-end database, such as Oracle, SQL, or SAS.
  • Apply expertise with a front-end database language, such as Python, VBA, R, etc.
  • Apply expertise in visualization tools, such as Tableau or Microstrategy.
  • Apply expertise in statistical tools and/or industry-standard analysis tools, such as Stata or Palantir.
  • Collaborate with SEC legal staff, U.S. Attorney's Office, and other federal, state, or local agencies on matters of market surveillance.

Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT: In addition to meeting the basic requirement, applicants must also meet the minimum qualification requirement SK-13: Applicant must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS/SK-12 level: sourcing, collecting and structuring data from multiple sources, developing analytical reports and recommendations, building analytical solutions, and explaining findings to others.
