Job Description Summary: The George Washington University's Elliott School of International Affairs (ESIA) is one of the world's leading schools of international affairs. Located in the heart of Washington, DC, its mission is to educate the next generation of international leaders, conduct research that advances understanding of important global issues, and engage the policy community in the United States and around the world. The school's unique location-just steps from the White House, World Bank, International Monetary Fund, US Department of State, and dozens of other US and international organizations-enriches its teaching and research, providing students and scholars with unmatched opportunities to engage with the US and international policy communities. Diversity and Inclusion are two core priorities for the Elliott School and its commitment is shared in its Diversity Statement. The Elliott School is committed to attracting candidates from diverse backgrounds and experiences. The Elliott School's Office of Undergraduate Academic Advising provides advising services to over 2,200 undergraduate students majoring in International Affairs, Asian Studies, Middle East Studies, and Latin American and Hemispheric Studies. Through individual and group advising, workshops, and programs, the Undergraduate Advising Office empowers students to develop goals, navigate academic programs, utilize available resources, and explore the field of international affairs. The pre-law/general academic advisor is a pre-professional advisor with responsibilities for pre-law advising and general academic advising. The pre-law/general academic advisor will spend 50% of their time advising Elliott students and alumni interested in law and law-adjacent careers and the other 50% advising a cohort of approximately 200 undergraduates from orientation through graduation. The pre-law/general academic advisor will serve on a team that also includes three general academic advisors, three senior advisors, an assistant director, an associate director, a director, and an administrative coordinator. The latter four positions constitute the leadership team. Pre-law advising responsibilities will include working closely with ABA-accredited law schools and GW law-related student organizations, conducting one-to-one appointments and group advising with Elliott pre-law students and alumni, and collaborating with the pre-law senior academic advisor in the Columbian College of Arts and Science on events, workshops, information sessions, listserv postings, and website information. A key responsibility involves co-planning the annual Washington, DC Law School Fair, one of the largest in the country. Significant professional development support is available for pre-law advising association memberships, attending local, regional and national conferences, and visits to law schools that regularly admit Elliott School graduates. General advising responsibilities will include facilitating remote summer orientation and advising through webinar, video, and phone contact, one-to-one academic advising appointments, monitoring and auditing of degree progress, documenting contacts with students, and serving as a liaison to one or more academic departments or student service units. The pre-law/general academic advisor will be eligible for Senior Advisor designation if they have three or more years of academic advising experience and one year of experience as an Elliott School academic advisor. Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.#06022021
