Job Details
WMATA's E ngineering and Architecture team are seeking qualified candidates for the position of Electrical Enginger - SCADA.
This engineer will work with a group of engineers designing, implementing, testing and commissioning, and maintaining SCADA components and systems.
The successful candidate will be responsible for deigning SCADA and Network systems for electrical and traction power systems. In addition, the engineer will design, integration, testing, construction/operational support and troubleshooting of SCADA, network and communication systems for stations, substations, and provide support in assessing and resolving operational and production problems to increase system reliability, productivity, and efficiency.
The ideal candidate possess the knowledge of AC Electrical and DC Traction Power system design; electrical SCADA and control systems; network communications including Ethernet, TCP/IP, IP addressed, Wireshark, etc.; industrial communication protocols - IEC 61850, DNP3 and Modbus; DAQ (Data Acquisition), RTU (Remote Terminal Unit), IED (Intelligent Electronic Device) and PLC ( programmable logic controller ) technologies and troubleshooting experience, and a strong ability to assess and design telecommunications implications for electrical SCADA and control systems, and interpret electrical distribution drawings to ascertain impacts on SCADA and control systems.
The successful candidate must have experience with various PC application software including Microsoft Suite and AutoCAD.
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. Minimum of six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in electrical engineering to preferably include switchgear, power control components and traction power equipment experience.
Or, an equivalent combination of post high school education and a minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in electrical engineering, to preferably include switchgear, power control components and traction power equipment experience.
License/Certificate:
Registration or the ability to acquire registration as a Professional Engineer in one of the signatory jurisdictions of the WMATA compact, i.e., the District of Columbia, Maryland or Virginia is preferred.
Medical Group :
Ability to satisfactorily complete the medical examination for this job. The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of this job either with or without reasonable accommodations.
Summary:
This is responsible professional electrical engineering work of a complex nature. Incumbent reviews and coordinates electrical designs and installations required by the Authority's rapid rail transit system. Incumbent has considerable latitude for independent judgment and action within established guidelines. Incumbent's performance will be evaluated based on the effective performance of assigned duties.
Major Duties:
- Reviews complex electrical drawing and design specifications related to electrical systems equipment developed by the General Engineering Consultant, ensuring technical adequacy and compliance with established standards of the Authority. Directs the General Engineering Consultant in preparation or modification of electrical plans.
- Confers with the General Engineering Consultant's electrical staff in the development of criteria, plans and specifications for guidance of stage and section designers.
- Reviews drawings, specifications and computations developed by Section Designers for electrical systems equipment such as switchgear, electrical panels, motor control centers, motors, pumps, fans, escalators, cables, energy efficient lighting, cathodic protection and heating devices.
- Reviews specifications ans shop drawings or procurement contracts, for bus garage renovation, modification or construction.
- Maintains liason with power companies to facilitate smooth and timely completion of construction projects
- Prepares accurate engineering reports on complex electrical facilities and systems,
- Performs special projects to include electrical engineering design, control circuit modification, equipment application, cost estimates, etc.,as assigned.
