An Overview
The Mental Health Team Supervisor will p rovide overall program leadership to a team of clinical staff who provide 24-hour mobile, community-based crisis intervention treatment services to the citizens of Alexandria.

What You Should Bring
The ideal candidate should have must have extensive knowledge of clinical supervision of other professional or paraprofessional staff, knowledge of the system of care in the City of Alexandria. The incumbent must have an advanced knowledge of current treatment interventions for individuals who have a mental illness and/or co-occurring substance abuse disorder, psychopharmacology, and crisis intervention.

The Opportunity
  • Provides clinical and administrative supervision to a team of Senior Therapist and a Therapist Supervisor;
  • Provides direct service to individuals in psychiatric crisis;
  • Provides consultation to other Department program staff;
  • Develops and maintains effective relationships with community members and agencies;
  • Ensures program coverage 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year;
  • Conducts regular staff meetings for case coordination and communicating program policies and procedures;
  • Assures program productivity is maintained by monitoring performance contract reports;
  • Assures program quality is maintained by conducting peer review activities, analyzing consumer satisfaction surveys, informal and formal feedback and external reviews;
  • Participates in regional and state ES initiatives and committees;
  • Completes Regional, State and other reports as needed;
  • Maintains databases and monitors program metrics;
  • Directs Department’s CIRT team;
  • Other duties as assigned.
About the Department
The Center for Adult Services (CAS) provides programs and services in Aging; Adult Protective Services; Clinical & Emergency Services; and Community & Residential Support Services for seniors and for persons with mental illness, intellectual disabilities and substance use disorders. CAS provides compassionate and effective person-centered services based on best practices. Our teams support self-determination, safety and recovery for Alexandria residents affected by abuse, neglect, mental illness, intellectual disabilities and substance use disorders.

Minimum & Additional Requirements

Three years of program management experience in a community mental health or similar setting, and three years of experience providing mental health and/or substance abuse services, including diagnostic evaluations, crisis intervention, and case management, and possession of an M.S.W., M.A., M.S. N. or a PH.D. degree from an accredited school, Virginia Licensure or immediate eligibility for Virginia licensure at the time of appointment as a LCSW, LPC, Clinical Nurse Specialist, or Clinical Psychologist, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

Management experience in a behavioral health emergency or crisis related program. Clinical and administrative experience working with individuals with a mental illness and/or co-occurring substance abuse disorder in a hospital or emergency setting; bilingual (English/Spanish).
