The ideal candidate for this Editor position on All Things Considered will have some background in audio news, as well as experience in and passion for meeting audiences in the digital space. This Editor will strategically produce and highlight show-side reporting in the digital space, as well as providing crucial inter-departmental communication to successfully integrate and increase show content into network programming for digital audiences. RESPONSIBILITIES * Work with ATC managers and News Desk leaders to plan digital coverage * Oversee ATC editorial workflow, including coordination and publication of breaking news and developing stories * Assign, edit and publish text-based features (reviews, essays, blog posts, news pieces, etc) on NPR.org * Must be able to edit for breaking news with speed and distinction. * Copy edits and proofreads photo galleries, video text, graphics and visual narratives, stories, display copy and other text for spelling, grammar, accuracy, style, punctuation, fairness, balance and tone * Stay up to date with NPR broadcasts, podcasts, reporters, news wires, competition and internal communications to make sure our visual storytelling is optimized and smart EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in journalism REQUIRED SKILLS * At least four years experience reporting, writing and/or editing a variety of stories * Demonstrated skills in copy editing and headline writing. * A broad range of general news knowledge and understanding of journalistic ethics * Understanding of journalistic ethics. * Willingness to learn skills necessary to work on digital platforms; ability to adapt to changes in equipment, software and workflow. * Ability to work quickly and independently * Ability to communicate clearly with staff in other departments at NPR to coordinate coverage * Demonstrated news judgment * Demonstrated ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines * Ability to text-based reviews, short essays, blog posts and news pieces, and will work with a variety of editors to coordinate and promote pieces published on NPR.org and other platforms * Able to work in-person on-site, as well as remotely PREFERRED SKILLS * Familiarity with content management systems * Familiarity with Twitter and Facebook * Knowledge of AP Style Explore the stories on our NPR Extra blog.
