Responsibilities

As an IT Specialist (INFOSEC), you will:
  • Ensure the Ginnie Mae infrastructure program is complying with Federal, HUD, and Ginnie Mae CISO security directives, policies, and procedures.
  • Apply Information Technology (IT) systems security principles and methods in order to recommend appropriate technical strategies to resolve complex and persistent IT security challenges.
  • Review proposed new systems, networks, and software designs for potential security risks.
  • Apply Computer Network Defense (CND) systems security principles and policies to develop long-range plans for IT security systems that anticipate and minimize risks associated with IT systems vulnerabilities.
  • Collaborate with the Ginnie Mae Office of Enterprise Risk (OER) by interpreting, formulating, and implementing regulatory guidance for safeguarding information and supporting vulnerability mitigation.

  • Qualifications

    You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

    Specialized Experience for the GS-14 level: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position must include the following:

    - Implementing Information Assurance programs and processes to ensure compliance while maintaining the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems and data.

    Examples of this experience could include:

    - Evaluating the effectiveness of existing Information Assurance programs; OR
    - Identifying new processes, techniques, and procedures to upgrade and enhance security protocols; OR
    - Consultation with top management officials to develop strategies and policies that govern implementation of security and reliability procedures throughout the organization; OR
    - Review of proposed new systems, networks, and software designs for potential security risks; OR
    - Adaptation of standard Information Security practices, precedents, techniques, or previous approaches relating to safeguarding information, and supporting vulnerability mitigation; OR
    - Oversight of an enterprise-wide automated systems to ensure it has been designed, developed, enhanced, and maintained in accordance with National Institute of Science & Technology (NIST), and Federal Information Security Modernization Act (FISMA) guidance, policies, procedures, and regulations.

    Experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service . One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.     In addition to specialized experience, individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.

  • Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

    A. This is a term position. A term position does not confer eligibility for transfer to another agency. A term employee does not acquire competitive status or eligibility to be converted to a career conditional appointment, nor is the time served under a term appointment creditable toward career tenure. A term appointment carries no implied or specific commitment of consideration for, or placement into, a permanent appointment.

    B. The employment of a term employee ends automatically at the expiration of his or her term. Term employees, who were previously in a career or career-conditional status, will not automatically be able to return to their career or career-conditional position once the term is over; they may, however, reapply for the career or career-conditional position if it is available.
    • A one year probationary period may be required.
    • Must successfully complete a background investigation.
    • Public Trust - Background Investigation will be required.
    • Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.
    • Have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.
    • If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt from having to do so.
