We are interested in making surgery safer, more accessible and better outcomes through super-human vision and machine intelligence. Our group recently published in Science Translational Medicine on the first supervised autonomous soft tissue robotic surgery. We are now working to further improve the SMART Surgical Vision platform using multi-modality imaging beyond human visual range. We believe in that in the future, machine intelligence and learning will play a critical role in surgical robotics, where the robot can perform surgical procedures collaboratively with and autonomously from human surgeons.

Roles:
  • Successful candidate will prototype and develop deep learning driven computer vision/imaging software for medical imaging/robotics platforms
  • Develop software algorithm for real-time image fusion, processing, applying to surgical procedures, and validation in preclinical/clinical studies, etc.

Qualifications

  • Sophomore or Junior/Senior college students majoring in Biomedical Engineering
  • Programming experience on/with Windows/Linux platforms, OpenGL, and OpenCL are a plus.
  • Expertise in deep learning, deep neural networks, convolutional neural networks, random forests, classifiers, feature representations, AI / Artificial Intelligence and/or related techniques are plus
  • Familiarity with one or more neural network frameworks such as Theano, Torch or Caffe
  • Consistent track record of academic research, with an emphasis on solving real-world problems.
  • Occasional travel to conferences and scientific meetings
  • Python, Java, and/or Matlab programming experience are pluses.
