Job Description

The Washington Post is seeking an experienced leader for our Multiplatform Editing Desk.

The Multiplatform Editing chief is responsible for the long-term strategy and daily operations of The Post's copy desk, which includes more than 65 editors who work on every platform and format that The Post publishes, including web, apps, newsletters, social, audio, video, graphics and print. The desk also operates The Washington Post News Service, which delivers Post content to news organizations worldwide, and maintains the Washington Post's Style Manual.

This position carries central responsibility, in concert with other senior editors, for ensuring that everything The Post publishes meets its high standards for accuracy, fairness and clarity of expression. The ideal candidate will have a track record of producing journalism of the very highest caliber - and of inspiring and leading others in the fulfillment of that objective.

Contenders for this role should have excellent news judgment and experience running a copy desk in a large newsroom. They should have the ability to pivot quickly between breaking news and projects while effectively managing a large team that will include editors in D.C., London, Seoul and elsewhere. A track record of impeccable work and a demonstrated ability to evolve existing workflows for new platforms are necessary for success in this role. This editor should have experience evaluating and updating style entries to respond to news.

A willingness to experiment and enthusiasm about the future will be necessary for success. The Multiplatform Editing chief will be responsible for coordinating with other leaders to develop and implement new tools and workflows that can make us more effective.

The Post strives to provide its readers with high-quality, trustworthy news and information while constantly innovating. That mission is best served by a diverse, multi-generational workforce with varied life experiences and perspectives. All cultures and backgrounds are welcome.

This position is based in our Washington newsroom. Once we resume normal operations, it will not be eligible for remote work.

To apply, please upload a résumé and a cover letter outlining your vision for the role to our jobs portal by Aug. 6. The cover letter should be addressed to Managing Editor/Digital Kat Downs Mulder, as well as Managing Editors Tracy Grant and Krissah Thompson.
