Cloud Engineer

Starting Salary $68,173 - $99,055


The Cloud Engineer will provide analysis, recommendations, deployment, and support for current and future cloud-based initiatives. Migrate applications, platforms, and infrastructure from on-premise to cloud services. Lead efforts to migrate storage and compute infrastructure to the cloud. Assist departments with planning and implementing various data analysis systems in the cloud. The cloud engineer will support evaluating and integrating cloud-based software used by the organization, particularly involving integrating single-sign-on. The engineer is also responsible for ensuring cloud security, cloud monitoring, and disaster recoverability of cloud deployments.

The position reports to the Director of Information Technology.

Primary responsibilities for the Cloud Engineer are:

  • Plan and execute medium and large-scale migrations of storage, compute and server systems from private infrastructure to public cloud platforms (particularly Azure and AWS).
  • Provide support for all SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS deployments.
  • Implement single-sign-on and other required cloud integration.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for AWS and Azure cloud services
  • Assist in creating cost-benefit estimates comparing total-cost-of-ownership of on-premise vs. cloud migration solutions.
  • Troubleshoot the performance of cloud-based systems and ensure proper security and backup procedures are followed for these systems.
  • Deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot Windows servers and services in a hypervisor environment.
  • Work with monitoring tools; manage access and permissions; script and automate where possible; maintain appropriate configurations; provide recommendations on system improvements.


  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or related technical fields. 
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in supporting and implementing cloud solutions.
  • Strong technical problem-solving skills.
  • General knowledge of virtualization and cloud computing.
  • Broad experience in developing and implementing cloud migrating solutions in AWS and/or Azure.
  • Experience working with virtual machines, virtual networking and storage in
    AWS and/or Azure.
  • Experience securing cloud environments.
  • Ability to take ownership of issues, work independently or escalate as needed, and find creative ways to resolve problems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to clearly, and concisely present complicated technical concepts to end-users with differing skill levels.
  • Strong proficiency in AWS services such as S3, EC2, Glacier, Snowball, FS6, Cloud Endure, Storage Gateway, and RDS.
  • Experience with different types of storage, including block and file, availability zones, compute types, or application requirements.
  • Experience with deploying, testing, and managing enterprise applications in a Cloud environment

A Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or related technical fields is required.  Minimum 2 years of experience in cloud supporting and implementing cloud solutions


Ability to speak and write clearly in the English language is essential. Ability to work closely with others in an office environment is essential. Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business and technical procedures. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and document technical procedures. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.


The employee must be able to deduce correctly the root cause of an IT problem, based on available data and his or her previous experience.  This employee must be able to determine the cause of a computer problem quickly and effectively. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  Work in the COG data center will be necessary, which has a higher noise level than normal and is kept at a temperature no greater than 65°F. This will typically not represent more than ten hours per working week.
