With over 30 programs throughout the District of Columbia, we provide a wide spectrum of services to the most vulnerable individuals and families of our city. SOMEs affordable housing for families offers safe, dignified, and affordable apartments to families experiencing homelessness and/or poverty. SOMEs family housing includes playgrounds and community spaces for the enrichment of the children and adults in residence. Children living in our family services programs attend SOME Place for Kids, an after-school tutoring, and enrichment program that supports their educational and social development needs. SOME, Inc. is currently seeking a part-time after school Program Assistant for our The Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Building, located in NW Washington, DC. College students majoring in elementary/secondary education, is a PLUS! Position Description: The program assistant provides assistance for youth programming and educational activities for children in Family Housing. Schedule: Monday - Friday, 4:00pm - 8:00pm (20 hours/week) Qualifications: Required - HS/GED; 1-3 yrs experience in education or social services; experience providing services to children. CPR/First-Aid, CPR for Infants Knowledge Skills & Abilities: * Knowledge of early childhood education * Action-oriented * Creativity * Organized with an attention to detail * Patience in working with children * Facilitation skills * Ability to communicate with diverse audiences * Excellent verbal and written communication skills * Ability to work independently and in a team environment * Ability to set professional boundaries * Proficient with MS Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook Expected Contributions: Youth Programming * Lead youth through SOME Place for Kids activities in after school program * Collaborate with Youth Services Coordinator and staff to develop and implement programs * Assist in developing communications to promote programs * Communicate with students and parents to collect report cards, collect permission slips, etc. * Purchase supplies, as needed * Assist in summer programs, as needed * Assist with tutoring activities for children * Assist volunteers in learning program activities * Develop monthly volunteer reports * Develop monthly activities calendar * Assist with administrative issues, as needed Reports to: Program Manager Closing Date: Open Until Filled To Apply: Go to our career page at
