Please take a moment to review NOVA's Annual Security Reports General Description: The primary responsibility of a faculty member at Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) is to provide quality instruction for the students. The major emphasis is on excellent teaching by working with students in classrooms, laboratories, individual conferences, and related activities. Faculty help students develop their interests and abilities to their fullest capacity to become better workers and better citizens. NOVA faculty may be assigned to any campus based upon enrollment and staffing needs. The incumbent will also assume Program Director (PD) responsibilities for the Respiratory Therapy Program. The Program Director (PD) is responsible for all aspects of the program. The recruitment and hiring for this position are contingent upon availability of funds, Duties and Tasks: Full-time teaching faculty in the Respiratory Therapy Program are responsible for teaching various courses in the discipline. Courses are offered in traditional, hybrid, and distance learning environments. All faculty must be available to teach day, evening and weekend classes. Faculty members also serve as faculty advisors, serve on division/campus/college committees, and participate in curriculum development and assessment. The appointment has normal teaching load of 15 credits per semester. The Program Director (PD) is responsible for all aspects of the program, including the administration, budget maintenance, continuous review and analysis, planning, development, and general effectiveness of the program as evidenced by Student Learning Outcomes. The PD will coordinate, develop, implement, and revise processes for the program's curriculum design; including but not limited to, course descriptions, course requirements, and evaluation systems. PD will oversee the evaluation, maintenance, selection, and purchase of educational materials and equipment that meet the needs of the program and will manage the lab. PD duties include collaborating with Respiratory Care faculty to meet the needs of students and program assessment. They will counsel and advise prospective and current students and assist with interviewing, selecting and mentoring faculty. PD will serve as a liaison between the program and affiliates/community stakeholders and assist in reviewing affiliation agreements as needed. PD is responsible for preparing annual reports for the Dean, college representatives and other agencies as needed. They will pursue ongoing education in the discipline, instructional delivery and maintain professional competency. They will collaborate with faculty to create a positive learning environment. PD coordinates Respiratory Care Advisory Board meetings and serves on department and college committees as requested. PD will maintain program accreditation by being knowledgeable of the Commission on Accreditation of Respiratory Care (CoARC) programmatic standards. Special Assignments May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor. KSA's/Required Qualifications Required KSAs: Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and oral/written communication skills. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work autonomously. The ability to effectively teach classroom, lab, and clinical components of Respiratory Therapy Program that include, but are not limited to: pharmacology, hemodynamics, mechanical ventilation, respiratory physiology, respiratory mechanics, and pulmonary functions. Ability to use technology to enhance classroom instruction. Ability to use on-line resources and Learning Management Systems. Ability to balance teaching responsibilities with program administration. Working knowledge and ability to effectively act as liaison between college and the clinical affiliates. Knowledge of the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC), procedures, and regulations. Minimum Qualifications: The Program Director must have a master's degree from an academic institution accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the US Department of Education (USDE) Be a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) Be eligible for a Virginia state license Have significant experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist with some experience in clinical respiratory care Must have some experience teaching either as an appointed faculty member in a CoARC-accredited respiratory care program or as a clinical instructor/preceptor for students in respiratory care, or an academician with some experience in clinical respiratory care, healthcare research, pulmonary medicine, healthcare administration, or subject directly related to degree conferred by the program Must complete the CoARC Key Personnel Training Program within 24 months of assuming the position Current BLS (required) and ACLS (preferred). Preferred Qualifications Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree or higher in a health-related area; RRT credentials; In addition, NPS, RPFT, or ACCS credentials; some experience teaching in a hospital setting; some experience teaching in a CoARC accredited Respiratory Care program: some working experience outside of acute care facilities. Must be eligible for licensure in the DC Metropolitan Area. Experience with and preparation for teaching culturally, linguistically, socio-economically, and academically diverse learners at the college-level; college-level teaching experience; experience with a diverse campus population; certification in teaching hybrid or online courses.
