About the Role:

We're seeking a Design Portfolio Manager to join our team to support our Consumer Card & Bank Experience Design team.

Design Portfolio Managers at Capital One are leaders and creative problem solvers. They're experts at building authentic relationships, improving team cohesion, understanding and aligning to a strategic direction, and enabling teams to stay focused on delivering world-class products that profoundly improve our customers' lives.

In this role, you'll support a portfolio team, partnering closely with the Senior Leader and their Program Leads to drive objectives forward and create space for designers to thrive.

You'll report to the head of Design Operations, and stay connected with the other Design Portfolio Managers on your team, partnering to define best practices, collaborate on shared problems, take ownership of horizontal processes, and create consistency in our Experience Design organization.

What You'll Do:

Portfolio Strategy
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and thought partner to your Senior Leader and Program Leads
  • Partner with your Senior Leader and Program Leads to determine and articulate priorities and work to be done
  • Maintain a holistic view of the work happening on the team in order to make connections, identify opportunities, and ensure alignment to strategic priorities
  • Drive momentum by advising on team direction and alignment
  • Advocate for the prioritization of initiatives that serve our customers and drive business and design objectives


Team Health & Resourcing
  • In partnership with Program Leads, track, forecast, and solve for staffing needs -from short-term sprints to long-term growth
  • Coordinate team growth processes (for example, hiring and onboarding employees, managing contractor engagements, etc.)
  • Partner with leaders and the operations team on maintaining a well-managed budget and team headcount
  • Monitor team and individual capacity, enablement, and energy levels to create a full view of the team's wellbeing


Engagement & Culture
  • Identify needs and create a strategy to establish rituals and norms that support a culture of growth, inclusion, and authenticity
  • Cultivate and maximize situational awareness by building relationships and fostering open communication across all levels of the team
  • Embrace, advocate for, and evangelize the impact of design and an experience design mindset


Operations: Global & Local
  • Collaborate with peer Design Portfolio Managers and the Head of Operations to improve shared systems, processes, and rituals for the org at large
  • Support and socialize those systems, processes, and rituals within your portfolio team
  • Identify best practices and create documentation, templates, and resources


People Leadership
  • Develop direct reports through mentoring, coaching, and performance management
  • Guide team members in strategy, alignment, process improvement, and change management

Basic Qualifications
  • At least 5 years of experience with program management, project management, or scrum project management


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience managing multiple large teams and bodies of work
  • Familiarity working with design or creative teams
  • Familiarity with agile principles, project management methodologies and tools
