Principal Risk Associate - Model Risk Office

Capital One's Model Risk Office (MROf) defines model risk management framework, controls, and governance practices for the company. It also maintains the model inventory, executes model risk processes and controls, maintains model policy, and develops and maintains a model governance system of record.

This Principal Risk Associate role is a key performer in the MROf within Enterprise Model Risk Management (EMRM).

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain a portfolio of preventative and detective risk controls
  • Lead cross functional projects and programs with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Support several MROf leaders in their interaction with lines of business modeling and risk management staff to include:
    • Meeting facilitation
    • Drafting and delivering presentations and communications
    • Creating and maintaining dashboards and risk reports
    • Monitoring Model Risk metrics and tracking action items to completion
    • Tracking and remediation of oversight and audit issues
  • Support various stakeholders to resolve prioritization and/or workload peaks on a risk-based approach
  • Identify inefficiencies in existing processes and collaborate to improve
  • Apply leadership skills such as communication and change management to help drive key process priorities
  • Maintain knowledge of operational procedures and ensure documentation is relevant and updated
  • Evaluate regularly the efficiency of business procedures according to organizational objectives and apply improvements
  • Work with stakeholders external to the group to problem solve ways to streamline process interactions
  • Ensure visibility and transparency to stakeholders to the health of operations, including identification of critical needs/dependencies


The ideal candidate for this position will have a high level of self-awareness, autonomy, and attention to detail. Moreover, the ideal candidate possesses a passion for risk management and project management, with the ability to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously while delivering high quality work products. They also have the tenacity and know-how to make risk management a competitive advantage for Capital One.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or military experience
  • At least 3 years of Financial Services Risk Management experience
  • At least 3 years of Project Management experience
  • At least 5 years of experience working with internal business clients


Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5 years of Project Management experience leading cross functional projects and programs in Risk
  • 5 years of Financial Services risk management experience
  • Project Management Institute (PMI) or Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification
  • 3 years of experience within Model Risk Management
  • 1 year of experience working with and applying the standards set forth in supervisory letters guiding model risk management, to include the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) Bulletin 2011-12: Sound Practices for Model Risk Management: Supervisory Guidance on Model Risk Management and Federal Reserve Board (FRB) Supervision and Regulatory Letter (SR) 11-7: Guidance on Model Risk Management
  • Ability to set direction, manage expectations and lead cross-functional teams
