Sr. Risk Manager, Fraud Product

Seeking a Senior Manager to support the Retail Bank Fraud Products and Machine Learning team as part of Capital One's Product Experience Team. Senior Risk Managers at Capital One are the front line of defense to ensure our Company remains stable and profitable. They are intellectually curious and highly motivated professionals with excellent communication, problem solving, influencing, and organizational skills. They have a high level of exposure across lines of business and have the opportunity to work with Executives to create and implement innovative solutions to identify and mitigate existing, potential and emerging risks to the Company .

Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with colleagues across Fraud and Data, Fraud Strategy and Operations, Data Sciences, Tech, Risk, IT, Legal, Compliance and others to drive improvement in processes, practices, quality, and risk position
  • Oversee model governance, computation and automation compliance, and machine learning risk management
  • Work with the the Fraud and Data teams to ensure risk position is well managed through improvements to processes, practices and quality
  • Building relationships and collaborating with key stakeholders in Fraud and Data, Fraud Strategy and Operations, Data Sciences, Tech, Risk, IT, Legal, Compliance and others
  • Perform proactive risk analysis and communicate and drive action on mitigation recommendations to address potential and emerging risks, gaps or breakdowns
  • Build deep understanding of Product Experience and Fraud and Data's operating model and the business to provide risk guidance that is forward looking, encompasses customer and associate experience, and protects Capital One
  • Leverage process understanding to assess risk exposure and implement enhancements to processes and controls
  • Manage multiple tasks independently to meet deadlines
  • Coordinate work between multiple areas and engage in multiple work streams, simultaneously; leveraging/influencing business partners to drive results
  • Create an engagement model between the product teams and the operation and machine learning teams to manage and communicate risk
  • Support internal audits, and regulatory exams
  • Partner with business to research and resolve risk events stemming from process breakdowns and provide overall solutions to ensure breakdowns do not reoccur
  • Set direction, manage expectations and lead cross-functional teams
  • Strategic leadership: Develop business strategies that will drive risk mitigation, well managed focus, and competitive success for Capital One in the face of shifting consumer and regulatory demands
  • Effective leadership within a matrixed organization is critical
  • People management and mentoring experience


Successful Senior Risk Managers will exhibit:

  • Strong executive communication skills: impeccable written and oral communication credentials, coupled with strategic influencing skills and the ability to drive agreement through intellect, interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Strategic thinking and an ability to effectively identify opportunities for improvements in people, process and emerging technologies
  • A high level of intellectual curiosity and comfort with ambiguity
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with key partners
  • Strategic & analytic orientation: a proven track record of decision making and problem solving based on critical thinking
  • Conceptual thinking skills must be complemented by a strong process orientation, given that a large part of the business is based on being well managed around (often manual) processes and operations
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills
  • Excellent problem solving and influencing skills
  • Strong coaching and mentoring skills to lead a team


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree or military experience or at least 7 years of financial services risk management experience
  • At least 4 years of risk management, process management, operations or technology experience
  • At least 2 years of people leadership experience


Preferred Qualifications:
  • 4+ years of experience supporting, partnering and interacting with internal business clients
  • 4+ years of Process or Project Management experience
  • Experience with fraud processes or internal product management
  • 4+ years Risk management experience
  • 3+ years of people management experience
  • 3+ years of experience in the financial services, banking or deposit products
  • 3+ of experience with risk and controls frameworks
