Responsibilities

The Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) provides operations support services and business solutions to the community of 10,000 House Members, Officers and staff. The CAO organization comprises more than 700 technical and administrative staff working in a variety of areas, including information technology, finance, budget management, human resources, payroll, childcare, food and vending, procurement, logistics and administrative counsel.

Incumbent provides network operational support to include problem management and first level remote diagnostics and/or on-site installation and repair of House of Representatives network infrastructure components. Utilizes software and hardware tools, identifies and diagnoses complex problems and factors affecting network performance. At the HS-8 level, the incumbent is subject to a greater degree of supervision and generally has a narrower scope of responsibility than at the HS-9 level. At the HS9 level, the position has a wide scope of responsibility than at the HS-8 level and may include supervisory responsibilities. At the HS-9 level, the incumbent is subject to a greater degree of supervision and generally has a narrower scope of responsibility than at the HS-10 level.

• Monitors network operational support of the House network infrastructure.

• Provide network problem management and coordination as "problem coordinator" which includes: logging/tracking problems, first-level diagnostics, on-site support, problem

escalation, and problem closure.

• Provide on-site diagnostic support for all House networks. Utilizes software and hardware tools, identifies and diagnoses complex problems and factors affecting network

performance.

• Install House network connectivity for Members, Committee, and House support offices.

• Maintain current diagrams of network components and fiber optic cabling in assigned areas.

• Perform network equipment installations, removals and hands on trouble shooting under the supervision of subject matter experts.

• Performs cabling, jumpers, cross-connects, and wiring installations as required.

• Provide technical guidance and training for more junior staff.

• Provide management status reports as required.

• Provide network problem management and coordination which includes opening of CTS tickets, logging/tracking problems, first-level diagnostics, on-site support, problem escalation, and problem closure.

• Performs Installation of new network designs enhancing the House network connectivity for Members, Committee, and House support offices.

• Provide 24x7, 7-day week on site support in response to trouble calls and ECC duties.

• Provide excellent customer service Members, Committee, and House staff.

• Perform other official duties as assigned.

The shift hours for this vacancy is 10pm to 6:30 am (third shift)

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Senior level experience with network monitoring and network problem determination. Significant experience working with standard wiring schemes, network protocols, and networking components, preferably those used within the House environment. Experience with standard communications networking hardware and software, preferably those used within the House Environment.
  • Strong knowledge of network testing equipment and techniques, protocol analyzers. Experience with Local Area Network (LAN) networking components such as routers, switches, hubs, servers, UPS's and transceivers.
  • Must be able to pull network cables (fiber or copper), use hand and power tools and work on ladders. Must be able to meet minimum physical demands; walk long distances, handle and lift heavy items (at least 50lbs), bend/crouch, and stand for long periods of time.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted personnel policies. Provide on-site support 24x7 (40-hour week) and on-call via cellular or other data device capabilities.
  • Ability to work additional hours as required. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to continual handling network equipment that typically weighs 25 - 35 lbs. with occasional lifting of equipment that may weigh up to 70 lbs.
