Job Announcement

The Police Department has two vacancies for a Police Citizen Aide II (PCA II) for the Court Liaison and the Warrant Operations Desk located at the Fairfax County Courthouse, 4110 Chain Bridge Road, Virginia 22030. The position's primary responsibility is to act as a liaison for, and provide assistance to, Police Officer’s, Courts, Office of the Sheriff, Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney, and the General Public. Assists citizens with directions and police service (lockouts). Provides date of Officer’s’ next scheduled court appearance. Assists the Commonwealth’s Attorney and the Courts with their business with the Police Department. Also, Advises Police dispatcher of receipt of mental detention order needing to be served. Operates computer-aided dispatch system (CAD). Obtains criminal and traffic histories for court presentation. This position is the first point of contact the public has when contacting Fairfax County Police Department with questions, concerns, or information citizens might require. Furnishes information to citizens on criminal and traffic laws public safety matters. Handles administrative tasks for a team of patrol officers. Keeps track of various types of arrest documents and documentation. These positions are considered "essential personnel".

Illustrative Duties

  • On a rotating shift basis, processes warrants, verifies data for requesting personas and prepares supplements to warrants;
  • Contacts police departments, local and out-of-state, concerning outstanding warrants;
  • Responds to front desk inquires by retrieving case records, etc., in an expeditious manner;
  • Responds to telephone callers and walk-in clients at the police station;
  • Responds to Teletype messages from Public Safety Communications Center concerning complaints or incidents;
  • Maintains accounts on station supplies;
  • Makes inspections of station facilities;
  • Distributes incoming correspondence to appropriate personnel;
  • Accesses, queries, and updates various automated information systems to obtain necessary data requested by law enforcement personnel;
  • Composes and completes routine correspondence, special reports and documents, including search warrants and affidavits.

  • Ability to type at 45 words per minute (WPM) may be needed for certain assignments;

  • Ability to work effectively under minimal direct supervision;
  • Ability to maintain a high level of ethical standards;
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of integrity and to be truthful at all times.


Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a G.E.D. issued by a state department of education; plus two years of experience performing clerical and/or police communications work, including one year of experience equivalent to Police Citizen Aide I.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Familiarity with computerized data systems Police Department procedures. Experience using Computer Assisted Dispatching (CAD) system, I/LEADS, and Microsoft Office software. Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and to Multi-Task. Strong attention to detail.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
  • Valid driver's license.
  • VCIN -VA Criminal Information Network- Required within 12 months and recertify every 24 months.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, credit check, driver's license check, polygraph exam and public safety background check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be capable of sitting for extended periods of time, capable of hearing and seeing sufficiently to interact with the radio, telephone, and cad systems. Must possess the manual dexterity necessary to enter information through the use of a keyboard. All duties may be performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
