Job Announcement

Provides child care services to the Department on Neighborhood and Community Services, Child Care Center. The responsibilities included but not limited to: Plans and provides age-appropriate child care and educational programs for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years enrolled in the Fairfax County Employees' Child Care Center. Develops experimental curriculum and enhances the environment according to children's individualized interests and needs. Follows all program procedures to ensure the health, safety, and accountability of children. Performs developmental screening and assessments. Assists in the preparation of documentation for local agency, state licensing, and national early childhood accreditation standards. Interacts with county staff, citizens and members of the child care community. Duties are performed under the supervision of a Day Care Center Teacher II.

Note: There are two 25 hour per week merit positions and one 20 hour per week merit position, Monday through Friday. The hours are between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. prefer flexibility.

This announcement may be used to fill multiple positions, all located in the Employees' Child Care Center in the Pennino Building in Fairfax, Virginia.

Employment Standards

Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:

Completion of two years of study and training at an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in early childhood or elementary education, nursing, recreation, or a related field plus one year of related work experience.

The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and a Child Protective Services Registry check to the satisfaction of the employer. A TB screening upon hire.

  • Early childhood education degree;
  • At least one year of experience teaching infants, toddlers or pre-school children in a child care setting;
  • Experience and/or knowledge of working with children with special needs.
Ability to move quickly in order to respond to unsafe situations and have enough strength to separate children engaged in an altercation. Ability to stand, stoop, bend, stretch, walk, climb, sit, kneel, crouch, reach, crawl, handle materials with manual dexterity, operate a keyboard, and lift up to 35 pounds. Ability to participate in all outdoor activities throughout the year; for example, field trips, pool excursions, hiking etc. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.

Panel Interview and may include a practical exercise.
