Job Description: We are searching for a Scientist I in Analytical Chemistry to perform analysis of cell culture formulations used in the industry for the development and manufacturing of biotherapeutics drugs. Under the supervision of an R&D manager or senior scientist, the Scientist I will perform sample analysis using various spectroscopic technologies, such as FTIR, Raman, X-ray fluorescence (XRF), etc., as well as participate and contribute to the development of new spectroscopic or other analytical assays for material identification.The Scientist I will collect and prepare samples, execute spectroscopic experiments, analyze data, generate spread sheets or laboratory reports, and perform basic chemometrics analysis. In addition to performing experiments, the Scientist I will have the opportunity to learn other analytical technologies as related to the material identification or characterization.Duties and Responsibilities: Participate in the development of spectroscopic and other rapid analytical methods (turbidity, osmolality, pH, solubility, etc.) for the identification and characterization of cell culture media and components.Work under general supervision of aR&D manager and senior scientist to prepare samples for spectroscopic (FTIR, Raman, XRF) analysis. Perform standard spectroscopic (FTIR, Raman, XRF) acquisition, analysis and results export. Work well as both an individual contributor and as a strong team member.Communicate with the supervisor on instrument operation and trouble shooting. Maintain accurate lab notebooks and comply with Good Laboratory Practices. Regularly communicate plans, actions and results with the supervisor.Comply with all company safety, training, and quality regulations and procedures. May be asked to perform other technical duties, such as HPLC, GC, ICP, etc. May be asked to perform other general lab duties, such as sample shipping, receiving, etc.Education: BS/BA Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, or other related fields. Familiar with analytical chemistry methods and techniques. Demonstrated competence in data analysis. Previous experience in the industry is a plus.Skills and Experiences: Good understanding of the principles of spectroscopic technologies, such as FTIR, Raman and XRF, as it relates to the sample characterization is required. Hands-on experience with one or more of above technologies is required.Good experience in sample weighing and sample dissolution is required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. Excellent team skills are required. Good working knowledge of chemistry principles, such as acid/base chemistry, sample solubility and precipitation, as it relates to the sample preparation is expected. Experience or strong understanding of other analytical methods such as turbidity, osmolality, pH, solubility, etc. is desired. Knowledge of the chemistry of inorganic and organic compounds used in cell culture media is desired.Previous experience in using chemometrics for data analysis is a differentiator. Previous hands-on experience in using Waters, or Agilent analytical instruments, such as HPLC, GC or ICP, is a differentiator.
