The City of Takoma Park is seeking a Sanitation Technician to become a member of the Solid Waste Division within the Department of Public Works. The Sanitation Technician serves as a member of a collection crew responsible for collection of refuse and recyclables. Typical Duties include: * Collecting residential recyclables, waste, garbage, and other miscellaneous items; * Collecting refuse from public containers in streets, parks, or other City property; * Collecting scheduled heavy or bulk items; * Driving small (non-CDL) trucks as needed to facilitate collection; * Responding to questions about collection procedures from the general public; * Performing public works yard clean-up and cleaning of public works vehicles; * Assisting with snow removal; * Performs related duties as assigned. Physical requirements and working conditions include: * Walking, running, standing, bending, crouching, and stooping; * Frequent lifting of objects of all sizes and weights; * Working outside in all weather conditions; * Frequent exposure to noise, dust, dirt, grease, and irritating chemicals. Minimum Qualifications include: * High school diploma or GED; and, * Six months of work experience; or, * Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job * Valid Driver's License The hourly wage for this position is expected to be between $16.92 and $19.93 and will be offered at a level consistent with the experience and qualifications of the candidate. This position is eligible for membership within the AFSCME union. A first review of resumes is expected to begin around May 15, 2021.
