JOB DESCRIPTIONSunwater Capital is seeking an Assistant Controller with strong analytical, technology, communication, and organizational skills to assist the CFO with accounting, budgeting, and reporting and grow into the Controller role. Sunwater Capital is a North Bethesda-based investment and asset management firm in the real estate and healthcare sectors. The Assistant Controller will be responsible for all budgeting, reporting, accounting, payroll, financial controls, and risk management. The Assistant Controller will also manage special projects such as deal pipeline review. The Assistant Controller will report to the firm's CFO and have one direct report. RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting and Financial ControlsDesign monthly reporting packs, updating templates as neededReview monthly financial statements for each entityPrepare FV and project-based financial statements on a monthly basisPrepare and provide monthly and year-end analyses and reports and present to the Exec on a monthly basisRegular review of bank and brokerage accountsAssist with quarterly asset reviewsPerform a periodic review and maintenance of financial controls BudgetingManage the budgeting process and cash flow forecastingReview each team's budget and preparing the overall budget v actual Accounting, AP, ARManage all aspects of the general ledger for the funds and entities, including preparing journals for M&A transactions for Staff Accountant to bookResearch accounting issues for compliance with generally accepted accounting principlesReview invoicesIssue/release paymentsManage month-end closeReview bank reconciliationsReview management fee calculations Payroll and Human ResourcesOversee payroll and benefits administration to ensure that amounts are paid timely and all filings are up to date OtherReviewing proposed deal models and staying current on pipeline/statusAssist in integrating new acquisitionsIdentify and implement new processes to increase efficiency and accuracy of financialsSpecial projects REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's degree in AccountingAt least 7 years of work experience in an accounting roleSage Intacct experience preferred (designing reports and dashboards)Hands-on corporate accounting as well as private equity experience preferredStrong excel and technology skillsProven leadership skills and ability to develop teamsStrong attention to detailHigh energy, integrity, ability to learn quickly, proactive, curious, and collegialRequired to be in the office once a week during COVID 19
