Early Childhood Special Education Coordinator

The George Mason University Kellar Institute for Human Disabilities, Training and Technical Assistance Center (TTAC), invites applications for an Early Childhood Special Education Coordinator. This is a full-time position which is eligible for university benefits. About the Training and Technical Assistance Center (TTAC): The Training and Technical Assistance Center (TTAC) provides technical assistance and professional development to school and related services personnel in Virginia Superintendent's Region 4, who work with students with disabilities. Specifically, the TTAC staff work to improve instructional practices of those who work with students with disabilities in an effort to increase the academic success of these students. Particular attention is given to those schools struggling to meet the state standards for making adequate yearly progress on indicators established by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) and approved by the U.S. Department of Education.

Responsibilities: * Provide support in the form of training and technical assistance to school personnel who work with students with disabilities in Virginia Superintendent's Region 4; * Facilitate early childhood/early intervention teams; * Provide support to school division educators as they return to school and respond to the current and changing needs as they deliver instruction and provide continuous learning; * Develop trainings to support the implementation of CLASS (Classroom Assessment Scoring System - pre-K) and the Inclusive Classroom Profile (ICP); * Support the system of partnerships with leaders in early childhood special education (LEADS); * Support the Inclusive Placement Opportunities for Preschoolers (IPOP) and Community of Learning initiatives; * Facilitate collaboration and teaming of early childhood and early intervention professionals to serve children birth through 5 with an emphasis on a smooth transition from early intervention to Part B services; * Through the Virginia Quality Initiative, provide educators and child care providers with implementation training, ongoing coaching and progress monitoring that leads to increased program quality and sustainability of improvement efforts; * Work within the Virginia Tiered Systems of Support (VTSS) in school divisions in Region 4, providing support to administrators and teachers at the PK and early elementary level, specifically in the area of developmental stages and social-emotional competence and behavior in young children; * Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications: * Master's degree or higher in Special Education, General Education, or related field; * Knowledge of effective best practice and current issues in Early Childhood Education (ECE) and Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE); * At least five years in the field of Early Childhood (Birth-8); * Experience working with educational professionals to provide professional development related to young children on research-based inclusive practices, curriculum-based assessment, and specialized instruction; * Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing, to individuals and groups; skills and experience in collaboration, teaming, and building relationships with teachers and administrators, including district level school administrators.

Preferred Qualifications: * Knowledge of research-based practices in curriculum, instruction, and assessment, and the ability to collect, analyze and use data to inform decisions; * Knowledge and understanding of early childhood indicator data; * Knowledge of quality early childhood practices and assessments, including the CLASS assessment (with reliability in the CLASS preferred); * Knowledge of Virginia Tiered Systems of Support; * Knowledge of early childhood coaching strategies; * Experience with and knowledge of adaptations and modifications that enable students with disabilities access to the general education curriculum; * Knowledge of VDOE's initiative to build a unified early childhood system, including creating a uniform measurement & improvement system; *Knowledge of the Preschool Development grant, the Mixed Delivery grant, and the Virginia Preschool Initiative.
