About the Office of Student Involvement: Student Involvement is an exciting office comprised of major events, Patriot Activities Council, Student Government, Fraternity & Sorority Life, Registered Student Organizations, TEDxGeorgeMasonU, GMU Esports, SI2GO Program, Student Funding Board, Mason Miracle and TEAM SI.

The Office of Student Involvement helps students GetConnected to Mason Nation through campus-wide events, student organizations, trainings, student advocacy and personal interactions to bring ideas to fruition, create a sense of belonging and prepare students for success in their future.

About the Position: The Assistant Director for Student Involvement is an Administrative Faculty position and is a part of the professional staff team of Student Involvement, within the Division of University Life. The Assistant Director manages multiple tasks while fulfilling the strategic goals as established by the office, Division of University Life, and the university. This position has primary responsibility for the daily oversight, support, advisement and learning opportunities of the Student Government as well as the advisement of the Student Funding Board.

Responsibilities: * Advise the Student Government, including but not limited to Student Government Executive members, the Student Senate, the Student Parking Appeals Board, and various committees; * Advise the Student Funding Board (SFB) with oversight of over $300,000 in student fee dollars; * Provide oversight for the Student Government area and budget management; * Facilitate training and transition for student leadership within Student Government; * Provide leadership development and support programming, communication and social media initiatives for Student Government; * Maintain records, materials, and other documents related to Student Government; * Responsible for the training, development and supervision of a Graduate Professional Assistant; * Ensure that Student Government adheres to all university policies; and local, state and federal laws; * Communicate and collaborate with appropriate university offices, departments and organizations, and assist Student Government leaders in developing relationships with these constituencies; * Assist with the maintenance of the Mason360 finance platform for RSO funding; * Provide guidance to students developing civic engagement programming; * Develop Mason Votes team to include students and other university staff and faculty; * Serve as a departmental representative on key University Life and institutional committees; * Participate as an active member of the University Life/Student Involvement professional staff, attending departmental meetings, collaborating with other staff members, and assisting in office and department-wide initiatives and programs; * Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications: * Master's degree, achieved by date of hire, in Student Affairs, Higher Education or related field; * Demonstrated full-time post-graduate professional experience; * Experience in direct advisement and leadership development of students and student organizations; * Demonstrated ability to provide attention to detail; * Demonstrated experience working with a team to accomplish collective goals; * Individual with excellent oral and written communication skills; * This position frequently interacts with senior-level administrators and must be able to conduct themselves in a highly professional manner; * Ability to work some evening and weekend hours, as needed.

Preferred Qualifications: * Experience working with student government and/or student funding boards; * Demonstrated commitment to diversity and the practice of open and effective communication with students, faculty and staff to build and maintain collaborative relationships; * Demonstrated experience managing conflict; * Prefer a minimum of 2 years post graduate, professional, full-time experience in Student Affairs related work.
