About Housing & Residence Life (HRL): Housing & Residence Life (HRL) is a self-supporting auxiliary organization within the University Life division of George Mason University. HRL serves a highly diverse population of approximately 6,200 students, the majority of which are undergraduates living in traditional, suite and apartment-style residence halls in three campuses within the vibrant Northern Virginia area. HRL employs over 170 full-time and graduate staff members and over 350 undergraduate student staff members. About the Student Support and Advocacy Center (SSAC): The Student Support and Advocacy Center (SSAC) is committed to providing an empowering environment for all Mason students to seek support services and to explore healthy life choices. The Center offers educational programming, one-on-one consultations, and resources in the areas of sexual and interpersonal violence, financial well-being, substance use, and collegiate recovery. SSAC staff assist students encountering barriers to personal success.

About the Position: The Assistant Director of Care and Outreach will report to the Associate Director of SSAC. At the direction of the Associate Director and in concert with the Associate Director of Residential Student Success within Housing & Residence Life, the Assistant Director will focus on providing leadership to residential student support services. The Assistant Director will address the needs of residential students in distress by managing a case load and conducting related meetings and facilitating referrals. They will assist in identifying concerning behavior and implementing crisis prevention strategies.

This position primarily works traditional hours 9am-5pm Monday - Friday within the Student Support and Advocacy office, but on occasion may have augmented hours to provide support to the Housing & Residence Life team.

Responsibilities: * Manage referrals of residential students related to mental health concerns, self-harm, food insecurity, financial distress, and other life crises; * Oversee all follow-up with residential students involved in incidents reported by Housing & Residence Life staff; * Implement developmentally appropriate interventions, coordinate resources and services, and monitor follow-up and progress of students in distress cases; * Provide confidential support services to students for the topic of Sexual and Interpersonal Violence; * Supervise the Coordinator of Care & Outreach and provide guidance for case management and all support services; * Collaborate with other units in assisting students in distress, including: Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS); Student Health Services; Student Conduct; Housing and Residence Life (HRL); Office of Disability Services (ODS); University Police; and appropriate academic administrators and faculty from around the University; * Serve as a member of the University CARE Team; * Serve as a member in the University AIM (All Incidents Management) group; * Oversee timely case management notes and documentation within Guardian; * Ensure that student records are maintained in accordance with University policies and applicable laws; * Provide support and guidance to Housing and Residence Life staff in matters pertaining to case management; consult with Associate Director of Residential Student Success when impact of a situation crosses functional boundaries; * Support and participate in the educational efforts of Housing & Residence Life in relation to the areas of well-being, resilience, and life skills; * Assist in the development and facilitation of student and professional staff training within Housing & Residence Life for all student in distress and case management topical areas; * Assist with data gathering for Housing & Residence Life's semester and annual reports, assessment, and statistical analyses; * Assist the Associate Director of Student Support and Advocacy and/or the Associate Director of Residential Student Success with special projects and other duties as assigned; * Actively support and comply with all University policies and department vision and goals; * Act as essential personnel at critical times, with the ability to respond remotely achieved through use of phone and telework technology; * Assist with large-scale Housing & Residence Life events, including residence hall move-in and new student orientation programs.

Required Qualifications: * A Master's degree in Student Personnel Administration, Higher Education, Counseling, Social Work or a related area; * Demonstrated full-time work experience in a university setting within student affairs managing students in distress or related issues; * Previous work experience in housing & residence life; * Ability to operate various software programs and navigate new technology quickly; * Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; problem solving and analytical skills; * Ability to build and maintain successful collaborative relationships in a diverse campus community; * Drive and flexibility to work in a high-paced environment with frequent interruptions.

Preferred Qualifications: * Previous work experience with a behavior intervention or CARE team; * Minimum 2-3 years experience in a university setting within student affairs.
