Postdoctoral Research Fellow - Artificial Intelligence

The George Mason University Center of Excellence in C4I and Cyber (C4I and Cyber Center), within the Volgenau School of Engineering, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position. This position will conduct research that investigates the applicability of artificial intelligence, autonomy, and augmentation (AAA) to the design of resilient Cyber-Physical Systems. Research interests should involve, but are not limited to, the human-computer interactions, hybrid systems, machine learning, autonomous systems, explainable AI, and performing implementation, test, evaluation, verification and validation for algorithms, data sets, and methodologies. Responsibilities: The candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary team developing novel techniques for cyber security, command and control, and complex systems development. Specific responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to: * Research and development of AAA solutions to cyber-physical systems and large-scale complex systems; * Development and/or implementation of advanced algorithms for data analytics, machine learning, AI, and explainable AI using Java, Python, and R; and * Design experiments, conduct research, and prepare manuscripts for publication in leading journals and peer-reviewed academic conferences.

Required Qualifications: * Applicants for the Postdoctoral Research Fellow position must have received a Ph.D. in Information Technology, Systems Engineering, Cyber Security Engineering, Computer Science or a closely related field by the start date of the position; * Candidates must possess, have experience on, and be able to demonstrate strong skills in software development in research environments; and * Candidates must possess the ability to work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications: * Publications in academic, peer-reviewed venues in the areas of AI, Computer Science, and/or closely related fields; * Experience in developing software using DevOps tools such as JIRA and Confluence; * Experience in developing software-based hardware applications; * Experience in developing advanced algorithms and/or implementing open-source algorithms in AAA related applications; and * Have expertise in one of the following areas: ** Explainable AI methods; ** Autonomous systems; ** Java, C++, or similar; ** Probabilistic graphical methods; and ** Python and related machine learning packages.
