"Assistant Professor, Energy and Sustainability (Term)

The George Mason University, Department of Environmental Science and Policy (ESP) in the College of Science is seeking an enthusiastic and energetic individual for a full-time 9-month, Term Assistant Professor of Energy and Sustainability beginning in Fall 2021 and extending through Summer 2022, renewable on an annual basis contingent on funding and performance. The successful candidate will join an active team of ESP faculty instructors and researchers located on the Fairfax campus in Virginia. Responsibilities: This faculty member will teach energy and sustainability courses in our graduate and undergraduate programs and coordinate and grow the Energy and Sustainability Policy and Science MS concentration. The expected teaching responsibility for this position is four courses per semester during Fall and Spring, including but not limited to Energy Policy, Food-Energy-Water Nexus, and Sustainability in Action. Based on research performance a lighter teaching load will be available.

Concentration coordination responsibilities include further development of the concentration's curriculum, recruitment of new students, and coordination of academic aspects of the program.

As a unit that promotes transdisciplinary scholarship, we seek a colleague with energy and sustainability teaching and research interests and experience that complement existing faculty strengths in Water and Watersheds, Conservation Science, and the One Health approach to ecosystems and sustainability. We welcome building new partnerships to develop interdisciplinary projects.

Required Qualifications: * Successful completion of a Ph.D. in Public Policy, Sustainability Studies, Environmental Science and Policy or related field; * At least five years of experience in teaching energy and sustainability courses at both graduate and undergraduate levels, with a record of excellence evidenced by course evaluations and awards; * Experience in designing energy and sustainability courses; * Experience in designing and implementing graduate academic programs; * A record of interdisciplinary/interdepartmental collaboration on teaching and research; * A record of grant activity for student research; * Experience in and strong commitment to mentoring and supervising graduate students; * Effective interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications: * A record of scholarly activity demonstrated by peer reviewed publications and invited conference presentations on energy and sustainability policy and education; * At least five years of experience working on energy and sustainability policy development in a government agency; * At least five years of professional energy and sustainability policy analysis experience.
