Job Summary: 
Westat has an immediate opening for a Field Director to support criminal justice research studies in our Behavioral Health and Health Policy Research focus area. As a Field Director, you will lead operations of a national study responsible for collecting data from jail facilities in all states. You will collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to lead field operations including planning, staff recruitment and onboarding, and survey administration and quality assurance processes. 

Job Responsibilities:
•    Responsible for managing and tracking field operations and progress of tasks to be completed prior to and during the field period. 
•    Supervises protocol development for internal and external counseling and procedures for mandatory reporting when required or as needed for participants.
•    Directs development of field staff training materials and contributes content to training scenarios. 
•    Collaborates with systems staff to refine and test field data operations systems. 
•    Responsible for recruitment, hiring, and training of data collection staff.
•    Oversees field managers in the scheduling and coordination of logistics and management of team leaders, interviewers, and personnel issues during the field period. 
•    Monitors productivity, costs, quality control, and the effectiveness of protocols and procedures during fielding.
•    Serves as project liaison to human resources and other relevant corporate departments related to field staff; responsible for managing coordination of all matters related to field personnel including resignations, terminations, and end of assignments, completing staff evaluations, time and expense reporting and processing.

Basic Qualifications: 
•    A Master's degree in public health, sociology, or other related field. 
•    A minimum of 10 years of experience directing survey operations of complex, large-scale research projects including survey administration, survey design, and field staff recruitment and training. 
•    A minimum of 4 years of experience directing field operations for a large data collection effort conducted in correctional facilities. 
•    Experience overseeing administration of ACASI and CAPI surveys. 
•    In-depth knowledge of IRB, human subjects, and mandatory reporting requirements. 

Preferred Qualifications:
•    Knowledge of best practices, protocols, and methodology for conducting PREA-funded studies or studies in correctional facilities
•    Expertise in developing protocols for collecting sensitive data from vulnerable populations (youth, elderly, inmates, sexual abuse survivors, etc.)

Candidates must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skill and be able to anticipate and problem-solve potential issues that may arise prior to and during data collection.
