Job Description

The Washington Post is seeking an accomplished foreign policy editor.

This is a demanding but rewarding position that offers the opportunity to help manage a group of reporters on the National Security team. It calls for a record of editing high-impact stories, sound news judgment, the ability to work in a high-pressure environment, and a willingness to experiment and collaborate to ensure our work reaches the widest possible audience.

A deep knowledge of U.S. foreign policy and international affairs is a significant plus, but we will consider editors experienced in other areas who have a record of shepherding standout work. That includes a commitment to storytelling using photo, video, graphics and data to find fresh and compelling ways to connect with readers.

The Post strives to provide its readers with high-quality, trustworthy news and information while constantly innovating. That mission is best served by a diverse, multi-generational workforce with varied life experiences and perspectives. All cultures and backgrounds are welcomed.

This position is based in our Washington newsroom. Once we resume normal operations, it will not be eligible for remote work.

If you are interested in the position, upload a cover letter outlining your vision for the job, a résumé and three pieces (as PDFs) you've written to our jobs portal by Aug 2. The cover letter should be addressed to National Editor Steven Ginsberg, Deputy National Editor Lori Montgomery, National Security Editor Peter Finn and Managing Editors Tracy Grant and Krissah Thompson.
