Communications and Marketing Coordinator

Location:         Calvert Marine Museum, Solomons, Maryland, USA
Salary:              $50,000 - $55,000 Annually
Closing Date:  Open until filled

JOB SUMMARY

The Communications and Marketing Coordinator is responsible for marketing and public relations for the Calvert Marine Museum. The position works with all museum departments to design materials and market and promote programs, events, the Museum Store, and the overall mission of the museum. The Communications and Marketing Coordinator will maintain and build relationships with the media, design materials, represent the museum at off-site events, develop and execute an annual marketing plan, and assist with select fundraising events.

This position will be an employee of the Calvert Marine Museum Society, the non-profit arm of the museum, and work under the direct supervision of the Director of Development with oversight from the museum’s Deputy Director. The Communications and Marketing Coordinator is a full-time, contract position with benefits, and works 35 hours per week.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Develop and execute targeted marketing strategies in support of CMM education, membership, and fundraising efforts
  • Create a collaborative relationship with museum departments to develop and execute marketing plans
  • Collect and apply data to events and programs to increase visibility and attendance
  • Write, edit and submit press releases, program and event descriptions, articles and miscellaneous other promotional pieces
  • Manage and negotiate advertising contracts and promote the museum’s programs through all media outlets
  • Work with design team to integrate a marketing plan into all CMM promotional materials
  • Provide a framework to the design team for annual and special events and programs to be used for marketing efforts
  • Manage social media outlets and related marketing efforts
  • Use conversion marketing, SEO marketing, and email marketing opportunities to promote museum events and mission

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferable in marketing or related field
  • Three years of marketing experience, preferably in a non-profit or museum environment
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with websites and experience using Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter in a professional setting
  • Experience with design software: In-Design, Photoshop, DreamWeaver, or similar
