Full Job Description
The Co-Responder Model (mental health support without law enforcement) was developed to provide effective responses to police calls for service that involves people with mental illness and behavioral health needs, to better link those individuals to appropriate services or provide other effective responses and to divert individuals from unnecessary legal system involvement and/or hospitalization. Mobile Crisis clinicians ensure continuity of care: an immediate and professional evaluation, collaboration with proper internal or external therapists, referral to other agencies, and advocacy for any treatment deemed necessary beyond the initial crisis.
Consumers call a toll-free access line to access services. Consumers are referred from various sources, including self, family, significant others, schools, hospitals, law enforcement officers, magistrates, social services, the courts, churches, and mental health provider staff.
iMind Behavioral Health runs a 24/7 mobile crisis team that also responds in a co-response model and the role of the mobile crisis supervisor is to lead staff toward excellence in clinical assessment; care and stabilization of individuals in crisis; and management of crisis scenes.
Programmatic Leadership Philosophy and duties:
- Required to attend crisis-associated meetings with local and state entities.
- Responsible for crisis reporting to stakeholders and grant maintenance for crisis-related grants.
- Will maintain regular communication and strong partnerships with local law enforcement, Fire/EMS, schools, town government, and hospitals
- Works with the Program Director to ensure the crisis program is regularly evaluated for best practice standards.
- Leads by example.
- Will continue to establish and maintain strong interagency relationships with local mental health professionals, human service agencies, and psychiatric facilities throughout the state.
- Provides community presentations about the Mobile Crisis Team, its work, goals, partnerships, and successes or educational classes as needed.
Clinical Program Excellence Philosophy and duties:
- Responsible for the management of the crisis team - scheduling, hiring, training, supervising, annual evaluations, & terminating staff, with approval of Program Director, when needed.
- Will be required to learn mobile crisis and co-response procedures, take shifts, and/or fill in when needed.
- Able to carry a small caseload of 3-5 clients, but must be effective and immediate with client needs, using CBT or other briefs, solution-focused approach.
- Develop and make available any resources for staff that will better their skill set or increase their knowledge for their position.
Full-Time Status and Description: Works one to two crisis shifts per week and has hours in the office. Is available to support staff when consultation on a case is needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge, education, training, skills, and experience in a multi-disciplinary approach to physical and mental health.
- Skilled at assessing the level of suicidality in individuals who present for help
- Excellent communication skills including diplomacy, tact, and effective bedside manner with patients.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to display a non-judgmental attitude
- Ability to remain solution-focused and respectful in all interactions with staff, co-workers, vendors, and clients Knowledge of DSM-IV TR and DSM 5 diagnoses and symptoms
- Excellent problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
- Creativity problem-solving skills must be stellar
- Skilled at working with various types of individuals and knowing how to approach each one
- Skilled in basic computer operations – Word, internet use, and data management
- Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives without supervision
- Ability to maintain boundaries with clients, practitioners, agencies, and community members
- Ability to uphold confidentiality at all times and when sharing information with those who have signed releases, ability to use the minimum necessary rule is imperative
- Ability to maintain composure, professionalism, and structure in any given situation
- Ability to maintain communication with clinical team daily
- Ability to handle and resolve recurring problems
Requirements and Credentials
- Master’s degree or Ph.D. in counseling, clinical psychology, counseling, social work, or related field
- Maryland state license required
- Minimum of five years experience in counseling related role with work in crisis or trauma assessment
- Three to five years of supervisory or management experience required
- 8-hour shift
- Weekend availability
- Multiple locations
