Summary

The incumbent is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the Logistics &Support / Furnishings Locksmith Shop. Major duties include but are not limited basic key cutting, minor engraving, removing broken keys from keyways, basic installation of locking mechanisms in office equipment, safes, etc., service calls, shop maintenance, safety, customer service, and workforce planning. Other duties or special projects as assigned.

Responsibilities

The Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) provides operations support services and business solutions to the
community of 10,000 House Members, Officers and staff. The CAO organization comprises more than 650 technical and
administrative staff working in a variety of areas, including information technology, finance, budget management, human
resources, payroll, child care, food and vending, procurement, logistics and administrative counsel.

The incumbent is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the L&S/Furnishings Locksmith Shop. Major duties include but are not limited basic key cutting, minor engraving, removing broken keys from keyways, basic installation of locking mechanisms in office equipment, safes, etc., service calls, shop maintenance, safety, customer service, and workforce planning. Other duties or special projects as assigned.

The position does not have day-to-day supervisory managerial responsibilities.

PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILIES:
  • Assist shop personnel as directed
  • Visit House Offices to make deliveries or troubleshoot locks
  • Make copies of keys and make sure they work in the locks when delivered
  • Learn to remove broken keys, and replacing of locks
  • Learn and assist on the Laser and Rotary engraver
  • Learn all safety protocols for the job
  • Assist with training programs as needed
  • Do shop upkeep such as sweeping, taking trash out, keeping a tidy work area

Qualifications

  • Able to pass a thorough background check for a top secret security clearance
  • Possess mechanical ability to learn the Locksmith trade
  • Ability to learn computer program governing the Laser and Mechanical Engravers
  • Able to stand for long periods of time and to walk around campus in all types of weather
  • Be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs
  • Basic knowledge of different types of locks
  • Able to travel for training that may take up to two weeks in duration
