The position serves as a technical work leader and is responsible for leading Physical Security Specialists and contractor staff who participate in the development of design engineering specifications for new equipment and devices for electronic security systems at Congressional facilities, and install, test, repair, and maintain the electronic systems that protect the Capitol Complex.

Oversees a staff consisting of Physical Security Specialists (Maintenance) and contractors, in planning, directing and coordinating the activities of the Security Equipment Section. Directs team to participate in designing engineering specifications for new equipment and devices for Congressional electronic security systems and in installing and maintaining such systems, reviewing designs, inspecting facilities and ascertaining how materials are to be protected. Leads the team involved in testing and aligning digital circuits and in analyzing, identifying and replacing defective electronic parts and solid-state devices. Works with the team as they adapt security equipment and devices to perform new or different security functions, test and evaluate new systems and recommend modifications, acquisitions and new test procedures designed to enhance the performance of the Capitol's electronic security systems.

Works with team to devise protective systems that provide maximum security with the least interference to Congressional missions and functions. Guides staff in resolving problems and conflicts between physical security requirements and organizational missions, and in adjusting systems for multiple and conflicting security requirements. Leads team in consulting with operating personnel and other security specialists to furnish protective systems that provide maximum security with the least interference in the organization's mission.

Makes adjustments to accomplish the workload in accordance with established priorities to ensure timely accomplishment of assigned team tasks; and ensures each employee has an integral role in developing the final team product. Monitors and reports on the status and progress of work, checking work in progress and reviewing completed work to see that the supervisor's instructions on work priorities, methods, deadlines, and quality have been met. Prepares reports and maintains records of work accomplishments and administrative information, as required, and coordinates the preparation, presentation, and communication of work-related information to the supervisor.

Directs staff in conducting surveys, compliance reviews, and analyses to identify critical and vulnerable facilities and sites and the threats against them. Determines compliance with regulations/directives pertaining to physical security matters/procedures. Participates in meetings and seminars related to physical security. Keeps current on technological developments and industry/government standards. Coordinates and deploys new equipment with USCP personnel to include training, ad hoc demonstrations, and briefings.

You must be a U.S. Citizen. Successful completion of a Background Investigation is required. Must complete a one year supervisory probationary period. Must have Direct Deposit. Must be able to obtain/maintain a Top Secret Clearance.


Qualifying experience for the CP-10 level includes one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least CP-09 or GS-11 level including in-depth knowledge of physical security methodology, and technical experience in leading a team including setting team goals and objective.
