This position is located in the Office of the Executive Director of Operations (OEDO), Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board (DNFSB), and operationally supports the Manager of Board Operations, Executive Director of Operations (EDO), Chairman, and Board Members. The incumbent is responsible for performing various administrative management functions in support of the agency, EDO, and Board Members.

As a Board Operations Specialist GS-0301-14, your typical work assignments may include the following:
  • Serves as the primary writer-editor for the agency's senior leadership and provides advice and assistance in analyzing program issues, resolving program and administrative problems, and is responsible for assuring the accuracy, responsiveness, and timeliness of all materials and correspondence related to executive staff.
  • Collects, assembles, prepares, and disseminates information to the agency, White House personnel, Congress, state and local government, and other Federal agencies. Reviews, tracks, and analyzes executive materials, correspondence, written and electronic documents, including classified material. These documents are addressed to the Executive Director of Operations (EDO), individual Board Members, the Board as a whole, or the Chair.
  • Develops communication plans, policies, and procedures. Develops general policy and procedural framework for handling all correspondence matters, including procedures for handling routine inquiries and overall policies and procedures for major action.
  • Prepares a variety of correspondence, reports, position papers, fact sheets, point papers and letters to internal and external offices in response to tasking from agency senior leaders.
  • Serves as a technical expert in writing and editing, organization-wide communications, public affairs, and external audience engagement. Responsible for assisting with internal communications across the agency, including developing and implementing communication processes between all agency Offices, the Chair, Board Members, and EDO. Assists with agency-wide or similar meeting preparations and logistics.

Occasional travel - To attend meetings, training, and other duties as assigned for the agency.

Specialized Experience:

GS-14 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 or higher-grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector, which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. Examples of specialized experience includes:
  • Performing comprehensive evaluations of organizational workflows;
  • Preparing and tracking correspondence, reports, and/or memoranda through the various review processes;
  • Managing and analyzing internal processes and procedures; and
  • Writing and editing organization-wide correspondence.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Time-in-Grade Requirements: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-12 is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-13 level. One year at the GS-13 is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-14 level. (Must submit your SF-50 that shows Time-in-Grade eligibility and reflects your title, series, and grade. DO NOT submit Award SF-50's; Award SF-50's will not be accepted).
