Senior Full-Stack Engineer (Capital One Investing)

We're Capital One Investing, a recently acquired tech startup that's focused on building wealth potential for our customers-and we're looking to add a talented Senior Full Stack Engineer to our growing team.
  • Do you care about delivering beautiful products to your users?
  • Is providing maintainable, tested code to your fellow engineers (and future self) important to you?
  • Do you strive for a deep understanding of the tools and languages that you use?
  • When you encounter a problem that isn't neatly packaged and fully defined, are you passionate about digging into it and refining a solution?

If this sounds like you, we'd love to chat.

Capital One Investing is an asset management solution for retirees that strives to be both cost-efficient and personalized. Our innovative technology, and the proprietary algorithms we've built, study millions of different combinations of future life, market and benefit outcomes, with the focus of finding the optimal set of financial decisions for each of our customers. Using this technology, we offer personalized advice on everything from investment allocations to claiming Social Security benefits to tax planning.

As a member of the engineering team, you'll collaborate with and receive support from our user experience, visual design and wealth management teams, while implementing elegant solutions to make financial information and resources more accessible to our customers.

The Capital One Investing team is passionate about building an ambitious product, and we believe that empowering our team members with ownership over the product and the freedom to be creative is key. This means involving team members in planning work at an early stage, being open to experimenting with new approaches and running quarterly, self-directed innovation sprints. We value the experiences and ideas of our team members, and believe in their ability to continually improve the company and the financial experience we're building.

This industry moves fast. We don't expect you to be familiar with our entire tech stack (buzzwords: JavaScript/Python/React/AWS/CI/CD/Git). What's important is your willingness and ability to learn-we want to see your curiosity and enthusiasm for what's out there.

Responsibilities:
  • Write full-stack JavaScript with React in the frontend and Node in the backend
  • Design and write SQL queries with Postgres
  • Build world-class consumer software products that solve our customers' problems
  • Add features to help both customers and wealth managers build better financial plans
  • Collaborate with UX and UI Designers to create engaging interactions
  • Follow software engineering best practices to build modular and sustainable software
  • Write meaningful unit and integration tests
  • Breaking goals into smaller, achievable tasks
  • Identify and discuss the tradeoffs of multiple approaches to solving business problems

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least 4 years of software development experience
  • At least 1 year of experience with JavaScript
  • At least 1 year of experience with HTML and CSS
  • At least 2 years of experience with distributed version control systems
  • At least 1 year of experience with SQL

Preferred Qualifications:
  • At least 2 years of experience building user-facing applications
  • At least 1 years of experience with a JavaScript framework, such as Angular, Ember, React, Vue or other
  • At least 2 years of experience with Python (or another server side language)
  • Experience with AWS (or other cloud service providers) and CI/CD
  • Experience with relational database architecture

At this time, Capital One will not sponsor a new applicant for employment authorization for this position.
