The research Technician II will perform routine research procedures related to investigation such as genotyping, RNA, and DNA extraction as directed by principal investigator or supervisor. Duties will be supervised.


Minimum Education
Bachelor's Degree with a major in basic science or related field desired. (Preferred)

Required Skills/Knowledge
Basic knowledge of lab safety and use of basic lab equipment
Knowledge of statistics, advanced mathematics
Knowledge of lab techniques & research related software

Functional Accountabilities
  • Plan, conduct, and manage search projects within the federal and institutional regulations and policies under the direction of the principal investigator.

  • Responsible for appropriate use of research funds and resources.
  • Comply with all annual job-related training requirements.
  • Conduct literature search as directed.

Laboratory Work
  • Perform routine tests under the direction of principal investigator or supervisor.

  • Record and check results for completeness and accuracy.
  • Perform tasks that may require familiarity with fundamental techniques and equipment.
  • Compile information from lab notebooks and journals.
  • Attend courses, seminars, and lab meetings to expand knowledge of research and laboratory techniques.

Project Planning
  • Assist with planning specific research protocols and procedures.

  • Coordinate schedules of tests and procedures.
  • Assist staff to develop and troubleshoot new techniques and ideas.

  • Maintain a log of work performed;

  • Prepare charts, graphs, and results of studies; compile and help analyze data.
  • Maintain all required records, reports, statistics, etc.; prepare summary reports as requested.
  • Maintain and update department policies in regard to procedures, objectives, safety etc.
